Subject: Fake cards?   PostPosted: Fri Mar 22, 2013 1:21 am Reply with quote

I just recieved the first shipment in a trade, where the sender not only sent me several fake "holo" Pokemon cards (really bad fakes - like drop-dead OBVIOUS, not even holo either) but were kind enough to send me an "extra card" as they put it (though a couple from our agreed trade were also missing). They also re-used a stamp (cut it off and TAPED it to a new envelope), which leaves me having to pay the post office for them sending to me.

Also, this is a level 0 trader. (typical, I know - but I like to give even newbies the benefit of the doubt when it comes to trades)

What should I do? Report the person and just move on with life?

That sounds like an awful experience! I am honestly surprised that the post office would mail something like that. Was the return address on the envelope? I really don't know what to recommend you do, but I would ask that you don't apply the "typical" to all level 0 traders. We all have to start somewhere right? And who knows? Maybe because this person is new he or she may have thought they were sending authentic cards and completing the trade correctly. Any open communication with the trader might be helpful before other steps. Or, just send back the cards that were sent to you and keep the cards that were intending to send out. Good luck!

I am not too surprised post-office wise; I find that a lot of things which should be caught at the origin office are instead forwarded and billed to me instead, even if there is a return address. I do like to give the benefit of the doubt to new traders, but the double-whammy just took me a bit more by surprise than I would have considered "normal" XD

It does seem suspicious! This website really encourages trust amongst its users. And probably a little patience too. And good, open communication. Hope this trade works out for you!

You can always talk to the other user to try to determine whether their actions were out of malice or not (I usually reserve bad trader reports for people who behave maliciously, but that is a personal preference of mine). There are children who use this site to trade that may not know how to use the post office without a parent's help. It's really difficult to determine a person's age without asking them, but two things you can look at are handwriting on the envelope and (if applicable) the address label that they have used for their return address (some people will have return address labels that have the names of their parents or family).

Whether you report them or not is totally up to you since you have every right to do so, but definitely try to communicate with them first.

The cite rules say this (its at the bottom):
http://www.tradecardsonline.com/im/showPage/page/trade_guidelines

If I were you, I would send their cards back to them and take note not to trade with them again until they have a larger number of refs.
