Subject: How do I decide what cards to replace to make deck better?   PostPosted: Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:51 pm Reply with quote

I am new to MTG, and have a problem deciding what cards to replace in my deck to make it stronger. I recently bought a custom made red/white deck from someone. Now I have about 20 or so other cards in my collection that are also red/white, and I want to put them in my deck without going too much over 60 cards. I like every single one of the cards, so how do I make a decision in which card to take out, and which card to put in? And I know about the general rule of having about 24 lands, and anywhere between 20-30 creatures in a 60 card deck and then the rest spells.

Well always think of the mana cost. If you can take out something that costs 8 for something that costs 5, that's a good improvement, especially in 2 player games. You should have an average mana cost (of 36 cards, 24 land) of about 3, any higher and it starts getting bad and lower you might be too weak. You could always also just put the 80 card deck up and ask someone to tell you what they think should come out of it.

mutalisk gives good advice.

all, in all, play test, play test, play test! you'll get a good feel for what is constantly left in your hand, or what you want to get but never seem to draw.

if you're on line playing, that's alot easier to do.

red/white is a good multi-color deck foundation too, especially if you're new...

reply with a card list of what you have in the deck, and maybe we can give you more specifics...

good luck!! Smile
