Another great night @ FNM! 2 packs Dark Ascension and 1 pack Innistrad. 14 players.
From the opening moment when I had Wolfbitten Captive, I impulsively decided that
mono-green was going to be the route I went. As the draft deepened, I toyed with splashing black or red, and grabbed from those colors when the green was absent or weak in the pass.
The deck I put together from the drafted cards (except BASIC lands added later):
Creatures (13)
1 Wolfbitten Captive (first card I chose…)
2 Young Wolf
2 Scorned Villager/Moonscarred Werewolf
1 Gatstaf Shepherd/Gatstaf Howler
2 Somberwald Dryad
1 Boneyard Wurm
1 Orchard Spirit
1 Briarpack Alpha
1 Kessig Recluse
1 Village Survivors
Sorcery/Instant/Enchant (4/5/1 = 10)
1 Caravan Vigil
1 Travel Preparations
1 Make a Wish
1 Spider Spawning
1 Hunger of the Howlpack
1 Ranger’s Guile
1 Moonmist
1 Crushing Vines
1 Favor of the Woods
Artifact (0)
Land (17)
17 Forest
Sideboard:
1 Hollowhenge Beast
1 Ray of Revelation
Hindsight says drop the dang Spider Spawning for the Beast! Spawning showed up in my hand constantly early and was of NO use to me. The one possible time it might have helped was in the first game, but I mis-read the card. Meh, lessons learned! And with one land fetch and two mana-source creatures, I should have backed off Forests to at least 16.
Overall, lost the first two matches and then won the remaining two to salvage some dignity. Played against a three-colour R/B/G deck, a B/W deck, B/G deck and then finally, a R/G deck. My last match showed the importance of the forestwalking Dryads.
Other goodies from this FNM: Intangible Virtue, Secrets of the Dead, 3 x Curse of Thirst, Harrowing Journey, Vengeful Vampire, Shattered Perception, Burning Vengeance, Think Twice, Night Terrors, Spiteful Shadows, Torch Fiend, 3 x Faithless Looting, Ghoulcaller’s Bell, Swamp, and 4 checklists.

Snagged another Strangleroot Geist as a door prize and also an 80-count pack of sweet M:TG Ultra Pro card sleeves (approx. $10 value)
Again, all rares were thrown in pool at the end of the play for selection based on draft ranking. I went 9 out of 14 and got:
Hellrider,
Sever the Bloodline, and
Curse of Bloodletting. I didn’t seek the Wolfbitten Captive that I played in my draft deck…
Home about 1:15 a.m. after a 7:30 p.m. arrival, so another great night of stuff and Magic - easily worth above and beyond my $10.50 - will be out there again next week!
