Fatty Bolger Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Fatty Bolger"
xymer United States
Avatar for xymer
Fatty is good to play in hobbit based theme decks for his supporting role of being able to cancel a strike on another hobbit. This is handy to have when at the moment a player doesnt have a card canceler in hand. This lets the other needed hobbit possibly get through to play an heavy corruption item. Hobbit decks tend to go after these type of items as they are more suited to deal with them. The play style can make fora tight deck theme, making it hard to wreck small hobbit companies. They have great corruption support and 4 hobbits in a company makes for only 2 hazards. They tend to have lots of creature cancelers via strike or attacks.

Glorfindel II Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Glorfindel II"

Avatar for xymer
Probably or easily one of the most used character cards used in play. Glorfindel just rocks. 8/9 on a character is really high plus the warrior/sage skill on him just makes it a no brainer to start him. Easily duplicated in character drafts due to his popularity.

Believe it or not he is the most used cheap character i can think of him. Players use him for the low mind cost for his sage ability in using "Marvels Told". Most often he is parked at a Haven alone or in support of a wizard for corruption checks.

Balin is a popular dwarf to start out with just for his sage class alone. HE is great for using "marvels told" in large dwarf companies. He is also a good character all around. Expect to see him duplicated a lot in character draft.

Radagast Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Radagast"
xymer United States
Avatar for xymer
Radagast is another good wizard and popular too boot. He comes in at Rivendell or Rhosgobel, that lets the player start cranking out the wilderness drawing action. Radagast is better being a active wizard for the very reason of drawing cards going trough each wilderness. A player can easily burn through their decks like this. Sideboard management is keen here with this for the next deck cycle. Wizard players tend to play speed decks more so compared to other avatar players. He can easily be in either small or large companies, be mindful of his corruption check bonus helps in many ways as a wizard player. Herb-lore and Forth He Hastened are good cards for untapping characters in his companies trying to get through the site phase and still play things at the site. Eriador or Rhovanion are his areas in which to play him, for sure to maximize his card drawing.

Alatar Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Alatar"
xymer United States
Avatar for xymer
Card Erratum: Change "he must tap and make a corruption check immediately following the attack." to "he must make a corruption check immediately following the attack, and, if untapped, he must tap."
Alatar can force someone to draw 0 cards when he moves.
When Alatar uses his special ability he must face a strike. Alatar overrides all other effects pertaining to the assigning of strikes.
Alatar must teleport and declare he is facing a strike before any other strikes are assigned.
Allies Alatar controls are discarded when he teleports.

Thought posting this errata on this wizard for review was rather critical in playing this avatar. Coming in at Rivendell or down south in Edhollond, starting at a Haven with him is exactly want you want. By using his teleport ability first off into joining another company, getting to help in combat for a strike to gain hazard MP is good. Note wanna do this without allies or they get discarded. The teleport helps to override a deadly strike on a weak character plus moving him fast on the map is nice. His card draw denial is real nice down to zero can easily catch an opponent with no hazards to play when going to a site or make them clog up their own hand with hazards. Doing that strategy comes into Alatar's play style which is combat along with item collecting. Consider taking him to an under-deeps run, as well works great into his theme I think. Taking him into company combat against a minion or balrog player is a possibility most would not think of either.

Pallando Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Pallando"
xymer United States
Avatar for xymer
Home site isn't too bad as he can use elves of lindon here for a good start. In a tournament Ive seen "Old Road" used to great effect with Pallando from the grey havens, it totally caught me by surprise. Pallando is a very popular wizard and quite frankly a good one for the game. He is considered a squatter wizard for the most part. Too keep him safe and for his extra card in hand ability is extremely powerful in this game. Also the discard face up is a game revealer for this player. Lacking the scout skill is the avoidance theme a pallando player would want, which is another reason to keep him site parked. Make sure to use his diplomat skill too good effect. Factions are the strong point for this wizard. Lastly as a squatter he is good for tapping in the org phase for sideboard action.

Saruman Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Saruman"
xymer United States
Avatar for xymer
Isengard being his home site can be rough for sure, being that it's a Ruins & Lair making creatures very playable there. Being in the Gap of Rohan will make one fear the cave-worm when moving Saruman. Players tend to like to keep him sitting at Isengard with a cheap support character for corruption support. His tap to use a palantir works well for him especially the "Palantir of Orhanc" that lets a player recycle a card back into play deck. His ability to tap to recycle spell cards is his staple move in that they help to cover corruption and combat for him while sitting at Isengard. Remember the wizard spell cards are probably the best ones to think of while doing this feature. A friend or three, First of the Order are also good ones to ponder about with this capability. Overall a good wizard to play be careful with his movement around Isengard or simply play him at Rivendell.

Gandalf Middle Earth In the discussion on the Card "Gandalf"
xymer United States
Avatar for xymer
Note that errata changed it to kills on Wizards is instantly -5 MP, instead of the old lose the game immediately. Good for decks based around Rivendell, epecially hobbit decks which can be very elusive. He is great for One ring decks for sure with his ability to test for gold rings. His bonus for corruption checks helps for sure when playing a wizard avatar. His best ability is the any haven home site, allowing him to pop in useful places indeed. More often then not he is used as back up wizard in the sideboard, if the main wizard gets beaten out first. This is due to the other wizards tending to be more popular in use.
