General description:
Dralnu, Lich Lord has great abilities of doubling the effects of any previously played instant or sorcery. Also, being a 3/3, it's no lame duck in battle, however, the downside is a large chance of sacrificing many, many other permanents.
Uses:
Dralnu gives any instant or sorcery in your graveyard flashback equal to its original mana cost. Basically, it allows you to play each instant or sorcery twice.
Strategies and game play:
I would only use this in a Red/Blue/Black sac-bam artifacts deck. However, the base of this kind of deck (Disciple of the Vault) is banned in all but the Vintage and Legacy formats. I suppose it would be useful in a sorcery/instant heavy deck (particularly counterspells), provided that there was something to protect it. Basically, keep Dralnu away from damage at all costs.
Combos with other cards:
Shielding Plax or another such card that gives it protection from spells and abilities would be most helpful in that direct damage that forces the owner to sacrifice permanents could not be used.
Ways to counteract it:
While Dralnu can't be killed by combat damage, something like Wrath of God will eliminate it, or just deal damage to it with burn spells, forcing its owner to sacrifice large numbers of permanents.
Strengths/Pros:
It's a 3/3 that can't be killed with the conventional methods. And giving all giving all instants and sorceries flashback is a huge advantage that practically doubles the use of all of those cards in your deck.
Weaknesses/Cons:
Dralnu is Legendary, an obvious weakness (unless one plays with the Leyline of Singularity). Also the sacrificing permanents instead of dealing damage to it is a gigantic minus that keeps it out of my decks for the most part
Variations:
Unknown variations.
Artwork and aesthetics:
I like the artwok. There's not much an artist can do about giving flashback, but it's a good depiction of what I always invisioned Lord Dralnu as from the descriptions in the books.
Overall rating:
Overall, I'd give Dralnu a 5.
