General description:
I could almost say that history was made when this card was released. Yu-gi-oh has existed for over ten years and plants are barely getting some support, and wow what kind of support! This card is amazing! but its pretty clear to me that Konami hates plants because they had to go ahead and make it a gemini... sigh!...
Strategies and game play:
Gigaplant can be used in some many different ways. You can use it in a simple plant-based deck and take advantage of its monster reborn ability, with card of safe return, the same ways zombies do. But first things first, how do get Gigaplant out to the field fast enough to begin abusing its effect as soon as possible? The answer lies on another plant from the same set: Lonefire blossom; they were released together for a reason; lonefire blossom lets you bring out Gigaplant to the field as long as you can offer a face up plant-type monster as a tribute, but lucky for you , you can use lonefire blossom itself to do the job. Now, if you had just normal summoned that Lonefire blossom you won’t be able to get Gigaplant’s effect because you need to normal summon it once it’s one the field to get it.
Gigaplant’s ability to work alongside plants as well as insects is what makes it so great.
A great insect choice to work with Gigaplant would be Blazewing Butterfly. Blazewing can tribute itself so you can special summon any Gemini monster from your graveyard and it comes with a prize, a monster summoned by Blazewing Butterfly has its effect actived as soon as its summoned, meaning you do not have to waste a normal summon just to get a monsters effect. Ok so lets say you had Gigaplant in the graveyard and card of safe return face up on the field, you tribute the butterfly to get Gigaplant from the graveyard you draw a card and since your Gigaplant has its effect already active for you, you can use it to bring another monster from your graveyard and draw one more card! Sadly, Blazewing butterfly is also a Gemini monster. But there are ways to work around that. Butterfly is a fire-attribute, which means you can special summon it with UFO turtle and normal summon it once on the field that way you don’t have to wait a whole turn to do it. Lonefire Blossom is also a fire-attribute, so you would want to add 3 copies of UFO to your deck as it will allow you to bring Gigaplant from your deck or graveyard to the field really fast.
You may also want to consider using cards like Swing of memories and Birthright, since Giga is a Gemini monster, it’s not really considered to be an effect monster until you have fulfilled the summoning requirements, so when its in the graveyard it’s treated as normal monster and you can use these cards to bring it back.
So there are really a lot of combos that you can pull off with this card, just consider this scenario:
* You have card of safe return on the field and blazewing butterfly with its effect activated; so you tribute it to get back another butterfly, draw 1 card; tribute that butterfly to bring back gigaplant from the grave, draw another card; use gigaplants effect ‘s to bring lonefire blossom and draw another card; tribute lonefire blossom to bring Gigaplant from your deck and normal summon it; use that gigaplants effect to revive another monster , lets say Card trooper and draw another card! you draw into swing of memories.; play swing to bring back one of the butterflies and draw again! Lets say you draw another swing of memories; play trooper’s effect , and you drop a gigaplant off the top of your deck; play swing and bring back the last Giga along with another draw!...
Ok you do need some luck to pull something like this off, but it can definately happen.
Now completely different from this idea, is the Mass Driver+Gigaplant+ Superalloy Beast Raptinus OTK, but I won’t get into that because well, the deck seems too inconsistent and not as fun
Ways to counteract it:
Stuff like DD Crow and Transmigration prophecy can ruin the fun any moment
Strengths/Pros:
1. A lot of speed, it can be summoned from the deck or graveyard very easily, or even 1 offering to normal summon it is not steep at all.
2. Its effect is simply amazing
3. 2400 atk is very respectable
Weaknesses/Cons:
1. It’s a Gemini
Variations:
There is only a rare version of this card in English, it can be found in PTDN
Overall rating:
Of course a card that can make a deck function almost on its own deserves a high rating, I’ll give a 9 out of 10
