Elemental Hero Prisma (Duelist Pack Collection Tin)
FINALLY.....the Wolf has come back to TCO!!! ['s Card Reviews]

written by wolfangsd Premium Member

Yes indeed, my long-awaited highly anticipated comeback to the Card Reviews pages has finally arrived!!.....for one night only (so far). See, I'm stuck in my engineering lab at school and I need to find a way to pass the time, so I figured now would be as good a time as any to re-introduce the TCO community to my long-overdue completion of my Hero fusion reviews. But first, I'll introduce a little tool which fusion-based decks can thrive with: Elemental Hero Prisma.
CAUTION: My reviews tend to be very long, so if you don't have time to read it just go ahead and rank it a "5" lol.

General description:
Prisma is the pinnacle of a new type of fusion sub, first introduced with Neo-Spacian Dark Panther: a fusion sub which doesn't replace the fusion material monster but rather changes its own name to become the actual fusion material. Some closed-minded duelists will look at Prisma and think "Well, it's a card E-Hero decks need, so good for them." But almost every duelist who is even slightly creative has seen the potential of this card....but on the downside, not many people know about its restrictions. Obviously I'll be dissecting this card inside and out, so don't you worry about a thing .

Uses:
There are essentially 3 uses for Prisma:
1) to copy the name of a fusion material monster in your deck for a Fusion Summon;
2) to copy the name of a fusion material monster in your deck in order to use some of that monster's specific support; and
3) to dump a monster from your deck to the graveyard

Strategies and game play:
Strategies for 1): The strategies for using Prisma as a fusion sub should be pretty simple and straight-forward, so I won't even touch on these. HOWEVER I will mention the biggest restriction to Prisma here: if a Fusion monster does not list a SPECIFIC monster as one of its fusion materials, you CANNOT choose any monster from your deck. Examples include: choosing a Dragon-type monster from your deck after showing "Five-Headed Dragon"; dumping any Rock-type monster for "Evil Hero Dark Gaia"; dumping any Warrior-type monster for "UFOroid Fighter"; etc. If anybody is foolish...er, I mean curious enough to question me on this I will gladly post a ruling from the UpperDeck forums addressing this issue.
Strategies for 2): Some people might just neglect this aspect of Prisma, but I ask you to think about this...How many monster-specific spells and traps are there that COULD be good? Blue-Eyes has Burst Stream of Destruction, Dark Magician has Dark Magic Attack, Red-Eyes has Inferno Fire Blast, practically EVERY E-Hero has their own name-specific support (for example: Bladedge has Edge Hammer which is like a one-sided Ring of Destruction). If I wanted to I could make a HUGE list of all the different support cards Prisma gives you use of, but I'll leave that to your imagination ;).
Strategies for 3): Deck-thinning, dump-and-reborn tactics....Prisma has the potential to replace Foolish Burial as 1-monster deck-thinning in most decks along with Armageddon Knight. The strategies which follow here are pretty basic, but not always very obvious.

Combos with other cards:
I could write a chapter on cards Prisma can combo with since it can share the combos of EVERY SINGLE fusion material monster in the game. Instead, I will write about how I personally use Prisma in my main deck: N-Heroes (N = Neo-Spacian):
I have found that E-Hero Neos is among a very select few monsters who can not only benefit from each of Prisma's uses, but also benefit from all 3 in the SAME TURN. You can dump a Neos in the grave from your deck to put a "Neos" on your field, which is vital in an N-Hero deck (I've found). At this point, you can equip the Prisma/Neos with Neos Force to make him 2500atk with a burning effect, play Neo Space to make him 2200 for the turn, or play both to make a 3000atk beater with a burn! On top of that, you can use O-Oversoul to summon the Neos you just dumped to get yet ANOTHER 2500atk beatstick on the field! And then, dare I say it, you can either summon a Neo-Spacian (or 2) for Contact Fusion, or just plain fuse Neos with Rainbow Dragon to break out the mighty Rainbow Neos! Man, I love my N-Hero deck!

This is only just one set of combos that Prisma can easily pull off. Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician also share similar combos since they are also highly-supported monsters in this game. As I've already said, I will leave the many other combos for you creative duelists to find because I'm sure even I can't name them all in this one review, not because I can't but because I probably don't know all of them (yes, there are THAT MANY)!

Ways to counteract it:
Either chain Skill Drain/Light-Imprisoning Mirror to the activation of Prisma's effect (this will keep the monster in the deck, also), or keep it off the field altogether. Depending on the deck you're facing, you might not even find it necessary to worry about Prisma at all. I will say this though: if you see Prisma in some sort of Hero-variant, WATCH OUT! Prisma is a Hero himself, so naturally he has the most potential with them.

Strengths/Pros:
-thins your deck
-copies the name of any fusion material monster
-opens MANY combos to be used with name-specific support
-gets a monster in your grave for "reborn" tactics later
-can be used in any deck which uses Fusions, not just Heroes
-searchable via Reinforcement of the Army, E - Emergency Call, Hero Signal
-easily summonable via Skyscraper 2 - Hero City

Weaknesses/Cons:
-relatively low attack
-must be able to protect him if you plan to use his effect next turn
-can't get any type of monster by showing Fusions like "Five-Headed Dragon" or "Evil Hero Dark Gaia"

Variations:
Artwork and aesthetics:
For those new to reading my reviews, you'll notice I usually don't fill these areas out.

Overall rating:
I really believe Prisma is one of the better promo cards to have been released in a while, rivaled mainly by Green Baboon and Light & Darkness Dragon.
Any deck which uses Fusion Monsters: 9.5/10 -> The only thing keeping it from a 10 in my book is the 1700atk as opposed to a relatively solid 1800atk
Splashed into random decks: 8/10 -> I can't think of any top-level duelist who uses Prisma without using the Fusion Deck at least occasionally, but since most of the top-level decks use DARK monsters almost exclusively Dark Grepher and Armageddon Knight fit so much better than Prisma. Although, I do believe the release of Light of Destruction will prove how useful Prisma may or may not be in non-fusion-based decks.

Epilogue
For those of you reading my reviews for the first time, I do hope you've enjoyed learning about E-Hero Prisma and how useful he can be. I look forward to reading some feedback from the masses. Happy dueling, good luck deck-building, and remember that the game is meant to be fun, so with that in mind..."Get your game on!"

PS: Ugh, I feel dirty for saying that horrible catch-phrase, but I couldn't help it

Though I still read it, very informative. Though you seem to be bragging a tad more then usual. I know you're above that, so it's kinda strange....

The low attack problem can be easily solved by Honest.
Also, I think you wouldnt be playing Prisma if you cannot conduct a fusion summon this turn, so its ATK would not be affecting the game so much.
