General description:
Most Hero fusions are best in their own specific situations and the Hero deck in general is meant to be a kind of Fusion Toolbox deck. Neos fusions are no different, they just offer greater effects due to their restricted summoning conditions. Triple-Contact Neos fusions offer even greater effects with even stricter summoning conditions.
Elemental Hero Chaos Neos....his name implies a collaboration of "old school" Chaos decks, incorporating both Light and Dark attributes to achieve total domination. His effect, however, suggests the opposite unfortunately. However, there is still hope for this wayward warrior....
Uses:
Aside from being a massive 3000atk Warrior, Chaos Neos can do one of three things:
1) become a D-Hero Plasma for the turn, negating all of your opponent's monsters on the field,
2) perform a Raigeki-like mass removal,
3) reset any face-up flip-effect monsters.
Admittedly, there are much better alternatives to each of these three uses (Lightning Vortex, D-Hero Plasma, Book of Moon, etc), but the advantage Chaos Neos gives is to be able to use the effects multiple times per duel against those decks which really demand that kind of attention like monster-based stall or massive swarming decks (one example that comes to mind: Yubel decks).
Strategies and game play:
First you must know what you're getting yourself into with Chaos Neos and his gamble effect. Figuring out the probabilities of his effect, I've come up with these numbers for whenever you wish to activate his effect:
No effect (0 heads): 1/8 = 12.5%
bounce (1 head): 3/8 = 37.5%
negate (2 heads): 3/8 = 37.5%
destroy (3 heads): 1/8 = 12.5%
Looking at the probabilities above, you have just as much a chance to negate all of the opponent's monster's effects as you do to have the entire effect backfire on you, which is slightly higher than the chances of rolling a 1 or 6 using Snipe Hunter's effect (33.3%). Using Chaos Neos is very much a gamble, but that's half the fun of him now isn't it? It's never good to rely on Chaos Neos for his 3head effect, but it's always awesome when you just happen to pull the hat trick!
In order to benefit fully from Chaos Neos' effect, it's best to equip him with Instant Neo Space before using his effect. The reasoning behind this is that not only does it give Chaos Neos the benefit of staying on the field if you get a beneficial coin toss, but also in case you do get the negative effect of returning all your monsters, Instant Neo Space gives you the E-Hero Neos you just returned in order to summon Chaos Neos, so you're not left completely defenseless (as if having a 2500atk beatstick on the field is ever a "blah" thing ;) ).
As for getting Dark Panther, Glow Moss, and Neos all on the field for the fusion, Oversoul and Limit Reverse are excellant for getting that job done, as well as E-Hero Prisma of course.
Combos with other cards:
-Instant Neo Space not only provides the field-staying effect as it does for all Neos Fusions, but in the event of tossing only 1 heads during a coin toss and prematurely sending Chaos Neos back, Instant Neo Space will give you a free Neos from your deck to compensate.
-Second Coin Toss will let you control the coin toss effect more effectively.
Ways to counteract it:
The awkward thing about Chaos Neos is that since his effect is a gamble, there's no way to anticipate how to deal with Chaos Neos, or even if you have to deal with it at all. If you see a Second Coin Toss spell card it's best to get rid of it as soon as possible, but that's good advice against anytime you see it, not just against Neos decks. Also, like all Neos fusions you don't want this guy to stay on the field for long, so if you see any kind of Neo Space it's best to get rid of that as well.
Strengths/Pros:
-3000atk
-Dark attribute and Warrior type gives it lots of support
-can either negate OR destroy every monster your opponent has
-can be used to recycle flip-effect monsters
Weaknesses/Cons:
-returns to the Fusion Deck at the end of the turn unless you prepare
-the effect can backfire on you with a 37.5% chance
-little control to get the effect you want to use, especially if you need a certain effect
Artwork and aesthetics:
I don't usually comment on a card's artwork, but I have to say that Chaos Neos has my most favorite artwork seen on a card. The Dark side from Dark Neos with the Glowing "veins" really show the true Chaos nature of Chaos Neos, even if his effect doesn't.
Overall rating:
I dunno...it's a toss-up. (hehe, get it?)
6.5/10: the fact that you can't control the coin toss very well hurts Chaos Neos' playability, however you can play the odds and hope to either negate all monsters or wave good-bye to all your monsters.
