General description:

If you Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 3 monsters, destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field.

Uses:

When a controller sucessfully tributes 3 monsters, Gilford can basically become a 1-2 punch. First, he destroys all monsters on the opposing side of the field, then the controller can attack his opponent with a devastating 2800 life points. Unlike high powered monsters like Cyber Dragon, Blue Eyes Dragon, can initially attack the opposing side of the field while empty. Making attacking an opponent's life points fair game.

Strategies and game play:

I would suggest having 3 kaiser sea horses as a requirement for this deck. Kaiser Sea horse's ability acts as two tributes for Gilford being that he is a light monster. Additionally, monsters such as Nimble Monmonga and Spirit reaper in a deck which uses this card are good support for Gilford. Making a Gilford deck a control deck using cards such as Brain Control, Enemy Controller, and/or Snatch steel can be especially useful in that they can provide additional tribute material to make Gilford easier to get three tributes and to land a heavy blow to your opponent's lifepoints. The basic strategy of running a good Gilford Deck would be to keep as many monsters on your side of the field as much as possible. Good Traps which counter opposing traps and spells are helpful in meeting this end.

Combos with other cards:

Dimension Fussion+ Gilford
Special Summon Kaiser Sea Horse + Premature Burial/ Call of the Haunted+Tribute special summoned Kaiser Sea Horse + one more Monster on the field+Gilford
Gilford+Metamorposis+Cyber Dragon
Gilford+Metamorposis+Twin Cyber Twin Dragon (My Personal Favorite Combo)

Ways to counteract it:

Avoid Gilford from getting onto the field using monsters such as Asura Priest, Drilloid, lightning to destroy potential tribute monsters.
Bottomless Trap Hole-Stops Gilford from at least doing damage to lifepoints by attacking. Can buy time to get lucky and draw monster to counter attack next turn or to come up with a good stall strategy.
Divine Wrath-Protects Both your Monsters and Lifepoints and destroys Gilford altogether.

Strengths/Pros:

Effect of LightningVortex (Except without cost of discarding)/Raigeki, strong attack attributes.

Weaknesses/Cons:

Requires player to have plenty material on field to draw out Gilford and make most of his abilities.

Variations:

So far, only the Collectors Tin variation exists.

Artwork and aesthetics:

Artwork is excellent. Has the appearance of a strong warrior of legend which is known for his might and ability to destroy. I love his attack poise with the stormy background. Very nice touch to a great card with a subperb ability.

Overall rating:

8.5 in a good tribute/control deck
