Imperial Custom
The "Field Barrier" for Continuous Traps

General description:
Finally, face-up Continuous Trap Cards (CTC for short) have some protection from being destroyed! This card will greatly help anyone who either uses a lot of CTC's or whose deck focuses on a single CTC.

Uses, Strategies, and Game Play:
Since this card prevents face-up CTC's from being destroyed, use it to save your Traps from being destroyed by your opponent's Spell, Trap, and Monster Effects. It even prevents a CTC from self-destructing.

And if your opponent attempts to destroy all your face-up CTC's at the same time using Heavy Storm, only Imperial Custom and your face-down spells and traps will be destroyed.

Combos with other cards:
Imperial Custom + ...

... Trap Monsters: Imperial Customs prevents CTC's from being destroyed, so Trap Monsters won't be destroyed even by battle!

... Depth Amulet: Normally, DA would be destroyed during the opponent's 3rd End Phase. But since Imperial Custom prevents CTC's from being desroyed, it can stay active as long as its face-up on the field.

... Sanguine Swamp: This Cold-Wave-like CTC finally gets some action! Just chain Imperial Custom to Sanguine Swamp, and your opponent cannot activate face-down spells and traps. That will stop your opponent from activating traps such as Mirror Force or face-down quick-play spells like Book of Moon. There are just 2 small problems with this combo:

    1) This card prevents you from activating your face-down spells and traps too. So you have to make sure all the necessary traps you need are face-up!

    2) Unless the only 2 spell and trap cards you have on your side of the field are Sanguine Swamp and Imperial Custom, Sanguine Swamp will be destroyed as soon as Imperial Custom is destroyed.

... Sanguine Swamp + Anti-Spell Fragrance: Since your opponent can still activate Spell Cards from his or her hand, use ASF to force your opponent to set the Spell Cards before he or she can use them. And since Sanguine Swamp is in effect, he can't activate it since it's face-down! So basically, you just prevented your opponent from activating and/or using Traps and Spells! Now he can only rely on monsters and monster effects!

Ways to counteract it:
Imperial Custom can still be destroyed, so destroy it first before going after the other Traps. It can also be negated with Trap-negators such as Jinzo and Royal Decree.

Strengths/Pros:
Prevents all your face-up CTC's from being destroyed even by self-destruction.

Weaknesses/Cons:
* Imperial Custom can still be destroyed and you can only have 1 face-up Imperial Custom on your side of the field.
* Only face-up CTC's can be saved. Face-down Spells and Traps are still destroyed.
* Only turn-based self-destructs can be stopped using Imperial Custom, but cost-based self-destruct cards (such as Mirror Wall) will still be destroyed if you can't or don't pay the required amount of Life Points.
* Although CTC's can't be destroyed, they can be negated, so a Jinzo + Heavy Storm combo would be devastating!

Variations:
Fortunately for those with bad pulling luck, it comes as a common in Ancient Prophecy.

Artwork and aesthetics:
I think the artwork is pretty average. The king is the same king as seen in many other cards that picture a king.

Overall rating:
I give this card a 10/10 in decks based on CTC's.
This card gets a 8.5-9/10 in other decks. It would be better if the CTC's couldn't be negated and cost-based self-destructs counted in Imperial Custom's rulings!

it was informative and was definitely worth a 4 (or maybe 4.5 ) but i did not see how it would be very well used in other decks. most decks dont run continious traps but it is still a card that will be put to good use im sure! this review was great and keep writing more!

What about Gadget Oppression Monarch? Ultimate Offering and Royal Oppression would be unstopable. And burn decks with gravity bind and wall of reveiling light may make a comeback, especially from the hit OTK's have gotten. And I just thought about TRAP MONSTERS! How awesome that combo would be...

I didn't put the Trap Monsters in because I forgot about them.

Sorry I meant to address cmeury14, not a critisism on you, sl1ferm4ster. Your combos were great, and you deserved your 4 I gave you. Hold it tight, I don't give them away that often, lol.

Pretty good review... I like to use Uria decks, and I use some Imperial Customs in them. People don't like it when I protect my Royal Oppression or Grave of the Super Ancient Organism with it... he he.
A bad thing happens when they use Royal Decree with Imperial Custom face-up: if you try to use MST or Dust Tornado on the Decree, Custom protects it because its effect hasn't been negated yet! You can get around it with Dark Bribe though because it cancels the activation.
