Endymion, the Master Magician
The Legal Dark Magician of Chaos

General description:
Endymion the Master Magician is without doubt one of the best Spellcaster-type monsters to have ever been released in this game and is an excellent addition to any Spell-heavy deck. I'd especially recommend it for anyone who used Spell-Counter decks that this card would radically increase your Deck's potential.

Uses:
As I had mentioned in the title, I like to think of Endymion as the more legal version of Dark Magician of Chaos. It has the potential to bring back a spell card which can turn the tide of any duel. What some people probably don't realize, this monster can be Tribute Summoned and even Special Summoned like just about any other monster. You only have to Special Summon it by removing 6 Spell Counters from Magical Citadel of Endymion when you want to activate its effect of retrieving a spell from your graveyard. But even without the ability to regain a spell, this monster is very useful and strong enough to hold its own in battle. In the tournaments, this is probably the best you can do without out Dark Magician of Chaos.

Strategies and game play:
Always keep in mind that Magical Citadel of Endymion can special summon Endymion from the Graveyard so even if Endymion is destroyed that doesn't necessarily mean it's the last you'll see of him and in a well built Spell Counter deck, getting 6 spell counters won't take long at all.

This monster is capable of using Spells without actually using them so you can get past cards like Spell Canceler or Anti-Spell Fragrance and destroy them with the very spells they prevented you from using. (How's that for Irony?)

You can also normal summon this monster so Cost Down, Dark Effigy and Double Coston would be really useful for normal summoning him.

Combos with other cards:
Like I said above, you don't have to special summon this monster by removing the 6 spell counters, that's just so you can gain a spell from your graveyard. However you can retrieve other spells like Magical Blast or Iron Core Koa'ki Meiru and use those spells as fodder to activate Endymion's second effect.

Another good strategy is to pack your deck with either Spell Power Grasp or Gather Your Mind, this way you can activate the spell, get your spell counters on another card and use the one you retrieved from your deck to activate Endymion's effect. Magician of Faith would also be useful.

If this monster would be removed from play, you could use cards like Return From the Different Dimension or Escape From the Dark Dimension. Or more preferable, use Dimension Fusion, this way you can add a spell counter to one of your cards on the field.

You can also use Diffusion Wave Motion to allow this monster to attack all monsters on your opponent's side of the field at once, combine this with Royal Command so your opponent can't destroy it with cards like Man-Eater Bug.

Ways to counteract it:
The best way I can think of to counteract this card would be with cards like Prime Material Dragon or Divine Wrath since these cards can negate monster effects.

The best way to prevent this monster from coming back is without doubt by removing it from play so your opponent won't be able to special summon it.

Use Swallow Flip to not only negate this monster's effect but destroy it also.

Another way to cripple this monster is to use cards like Skill Drain or Angel 07.

Strengths/Pros:
Easy to Summon or Special Summon.

Useful in just about any deck.

Powerful effects with a decent attack level.

Weaknesses/Cons:
It does have a weak defense and it's not necessarily too strong by means of ATK.

One of it's effects requires the removal of 6 spell counters which can prove annoying.

Variations:
None that I am aware of.

Artwork and aesthetics:
The artwork of this card is just awesome, nothing subtle at all but that's what's so cool. I like how it has the orbs which represent Spell Counters all over its outfit. It's one of my favorite Spellcasters in fact because of the art and definitely appears to be a force your opponent should not take likely.

Overall rating:
Even though it's not perfect it is still very useful in any deck and it doesn't necessarily require both effects to be so. I've got to give this card a 9/10. If it was maybe just a little stronger in defense I would have given it a 10.

Not bad, actually best review I have seen in awhile. I sort of disagree that this card is useful in many decks, but it along with the field spell should certainly be in almost any spell intensive and/or spellcaster deck. You forgot about toon table of contents as good spell fodder, and magical dimension is better than most of the other ways you can summon him.

Yeah those are some very good points you made. But I figured there were a lot of combos I'd miss, I kind of just do my reviews on the fly and only write what comes to mind at that moment. Thanks again for the comment.

I should have given this a 4 now that I think about it, I was too critical when I first looked at it. I looked at some of other reviews, also very good. I should make another review, it has been awhile since my last one.

not to be offensive or anything but i think your over emphasizing this cards greatest WAY too much. In theory its a good card but in reality its just a 2700 beat stick that can be special summoned by spells X(

Now right now I'm speaking from experience endymion is nothing more than a dark magician w/ 200 more atk there are many reasons why he isn't meta-game and the biggest one is the six spell counter summoning conditions sure six spell cards being activated sounds easy but if you really sole on your deck for this then your deck will be moving at the speed of a normal monster based deck and you've got problems if your opponent doesn't run alto of spells

This card is like Lava Golem in theory he seems good but in fact its just a fire attribute fiend w/ no place in any decks

And the legal DMoC statement is WAY over emphasized

Well I'll admit that when I did this review I was on a bit of a rant on what an awesome card it is, but I do see your point. I have had a theory on how it could be useful in a mill-deck which is what I'm working on right now. Not only that, but the 6 spell counter effect is a lot easier than you may think. And as far as why you don't think it's a legal version of DMoC, it really is when you consider that it can bring a spell card back from the graveyard as a result of being special summoned.

I admit I was wrong in thinking that it would be useful in "any deck", and now I see that it's probably better suited for a deck which was built to revolve around it, maybe even three of them.

Oh and as far as Lava Golem goes, I feel it's a lot better than what you give it credit for. But I do feel it's like Endymion, you should build a deck which revolves around the card itself or multiple copies of it.

It is a pretty nice review... Maybe I'm just say something silly but, if you can Special Summon it from the Graveyard with it's effect, then Foolish Burial, Armageddon Knight or Dark Grepher can be nice to send it from the deck, or hand, to the graveyard : that way you have an Endymion ready and the deck is slightly thinner; both very nice things indeed.
