Book of Eclipse (the Darkest moment before the Brightest) written by joshuacandar General description: The best card in Mill/Stall decks, and it is a quick-spell. It has several very useful applications. There is many lines copy from Wikia. My job was to search and compile the must useful information about the potential of "Book of Eclipse" EFFECT: "Change all face-up monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position. During the End Phase, flip all face-down Defense Position monsters your opponent controls face-up, and your opponent draws 1 card for each." This card only shows in The Duelist Genesis set Uses: This card can be used in Stall, Mill, and Burn decks. Also can be used for anti-light-sworn decks or anti-cloud ian decks or anti-gemini and anti-equip, (anti-meta), it have all the Advantages of "Book of Moon". And also the effect of "Book of Taiyou". Check the rules of Book of Moon" and "Book of Taiyou". 1șeffect:"Change all face-up monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position." basically it have the same uses from "book of Moon" You can stall your opponent by flip face down defense all monsters during your opponent turn, (i recommend to activate during Battle phase, because your opponent can still flip summon monsters that were summon previous turns) You can also flip face down your monsters to replay their flip effects Protect them from effects that require face up monsters, like fissure, lighting vortex, brain control and from "black garden" effect, etc... Use this card to prevent Synchro Summons. Remember that a monster that is face-down can't be used for a Synchro Summon. Use this card to remove all counters in face up monsters. example: Spell-Counters, Alien-Counters and Cloud ian-Counters. Use this card to destroy all equip cards. Remember that face-down monsters cannot be equip This card resets almost any (if not all,, there is some exceptions, read the judment dragon rulling) continues/face-up effects affecting a monster (including Gemini summon status, and level of Fortune ladies ): 1)If you use destruction effects, you can use this first to counter the effects of Stardust Dragon as well as its more advanced forms. Since your opponent can't use the effect of a face down monster. 2)If it was Special Summoned by "Call of the Haunted", the Trap Card doesn't affect your monster anymore, or if it was a Synchro Monster Special Summoned by "Eccentric Boy", then "Eccentric Boy's" effect is no more applied. Also if "Beast King Barbaros" or "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" is Normal Summoned without Tributes and has its ATK/DEF changed, then if it is flipped face-down by an effect like "Book of Moon" or "Book of Eclipse", then the effect which changes its ATK/DEF is no longer applied. 2șeffect:"During the End Phase, flip all face-down Defense Position monsters your opponent controls face-up, and your opponent draws 1 card for each." basically it have the same uses from "Book of Taiyou". But since is a quick-spell, you can also chain during your opponents turn, to force flip up your opponents monsters during end of phase. Flipping your opponent's face-down monsters face-up does not start a Chain. If your opponent has face-down monsters that were not flipped face-down by "Book of Eclipse", they are also flipped face-up. Flipping your opponent's face-down monsters face-up does not change them in attack position. They remain in defense position. Flipping a monster into face-up with "Book of Eclipse" is NOT a Flip Summon. This will help you to mill your opponents deck, since they are force to draw to each face up monster they control. Even better against light-sworn decks, since during End Phase after all of their monsters have milled their cards for their effects. If you chain Book of Eclipse, you immediately cause all of your opponent's monsters to be flipped face up, and then because all of their Lightsworns' monsters have been recently face up, their mill effects basically reset and your opponent has to mill for all of their effects again, and then your opponent draws one card for each monster flipped up. This means that your opponent will be much closer to decking out than they want to be. The hand size limit is six, so during your End Phase if you have more than six cards in your hand, you must discard cards until you have six cards left. If your opponents have more than 6 cards in his hand during end of phase, he must discard cards from his hand until he have 6. Strategies and game play: Simple have this card is a real truth in hand or field (since is a quick-spell) Spider Decks Their effects revolve around changing the opponent's monsters into Defense Position and taking advantage of your opponent's monsters while they are in that position. Position changing cards such as "Book of Eclipse", "No Entry!!," "Stumbling," "Curse of Anubis," "Koa'ki Meiru Beetle, and "Security Orb" serve to make their effects easier to activate. Since some of their effects also rely on having a certain number of Insect-type monsters in your Graveyard, "Foolish Burial" and even self-milling, through cards such as "Needlebug Nest", "Magical Merchant" might also prove useful as well. Mill-decks: Empty Jar DeckThis deck is consist of using "Morphing Jar"'s and "Needle Worm"'s effect and getting cards to recycle itself and mill in the same time. "Book of Eclipse", "Book of Moon", and "Book of Taiyou" works well in this deck. Morphing Jar Mill Deck Almost the same as the Empty Jar deck (i personaly prefer the Empty Jar deck). "Magical Stone Excavation", "Card Destruction", "The Shallow Grave", "Soul Reversal", "Giant Rat" and "Sangan" works well, too. Giving control of "Morphing Jar" or "Morphing Jar #2"'s to your opponent with cards such as "Shien's Spy", "Bone Temple Block", "Give and Take", "Creature Swap", and others makes flipping "Morphing Jar" simpler with cards like "Book of Eclipse", "Swords of Revealing Light and "Swords of Concealing Light". However, keep in mind that adding trap cards will make the deck much slower Stall-decks: Appropriate Exodiaif you activate the effect of Appropriate, you can draw two each time your opponent draws, since the draw effect is the last think that happens. It helps to draw the 5 pieces of exodia and stall in the same time. Destiny Board, Final Countdown. Burn-decks: Chain Strike OTKSince it is a quick-spell, it is more easily to chain with "Chain Strike". The "Chain Strike OTK", which is designed to win by the first to third turn. This is accomplished by starting a chain with, for example, "Just Desserts", continuing with, for example, "Ojama Trio", and adding Chain Links until a well-timed "Chain Strike" can generate enough burn damage to win. These decks are generally built with few monsters, resulting in decks with about six monster cards, and burn or drawing cards for the rest. Greed Mill Burn This deck is consist of normal Mill deck with "Greed" in it. This deck is more focused on damaging the enemy with the effect of Greed. You should avoid cards that makes you draw such as Hand Destruction and Morphing Jar or cards that discards cards from the enemy's deck to the graveyard such as Robbin' Zombie, Assault on GHQ and Grave keeper's Servant as they hinder or are not very practical cards to abuse the effect of Greed (The first problem could be solved by Solemn Wishes though). Anti-Heal, Dark Snake Syndrome Deck, Direct Burn, Solar Burn This card can be use to stall your opponents, and the same turn protect your monsters, but also can be used to re flip some burn flip effects monsters such as "Des Koala". Magical Explosion OTK Combine with "Mask of Darkness" and "Magical Explosion". Its stall, and in the same time you can reuse the flip effect of "Mask of Darkness" to bring back "Magical Explosion". Anti-Meta: From the previous reasons i said before. Since it have similar effect of "Book of Moon" in large scale, and it does not target. Skill Drain Deck: it can complete the deck by combine with "Beast King Barbaros" or "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" to the effect which changes its ATK/DEF is no longer applied. Combos with other cards: Combo to special summon "Mother Spider" from your hand. Ativate "Book of Eclipse" during your opponents turn, so their monsters can be in face-up defence position in the beginning of your turn. Send 2 face-up Defense Position monsters your opponent controls to the Graveyard isnt a cost and either a tribute (it can be negated by "Divine Wrath") Burn Combo with "Secret Barrel" and/or "Greed". Your opponent draw and take damage for it, in the same time. This card works well with Flip Effect monsters. example: "Penguin Soldier", "Man-eater Bug", etc... You can flip all of your opponent's monsters face-down, as a preliminary measure before using "Nobleman of Crossout", "Dark World Lightning", "Shield Crush", or cards that destroy defense monsters. Or to prevent quick-efect or continues-efects face-up efects monsters. Example, Jinjo. This card works well with "Dark Mirror Force". Chain this card with "Book of Eclipse" for complete destruction of your opponents monsters. This card works well with "Dark Hunter". While you have 5 or more DARK cards in the graveyard, you can use "Swords of Concealing Light" or "Book of Eclipse" to destroy all your opponents' monsters. This card also works well with "Red Dragon Archfiend", you can use "Swords of Concealing Light" or "Book of Eclipse" to destroy all your opponents' monsters. Use this card in a "Cyber Eltanin" deck during your opponent's turn, so in that way your monsters get flipped face-down and your opponent's monsters face-up next turn. In that way, you'll have a lot of monsters to perform an attack by flipping them face-up after summoning "Cyber Eltanin". Combo with "Enervating Mist", make your opponents to discard more cards, because of the reduce size hand. and their are more possibility for combos with other cards and the same combos that are used with book of moon or book of "Sun". Ways to counteract it: Essencialy with anti-spell cards such as "Horus the Black Flame Dragon". "Dark Simorgh", to prevent to set "Book of Eclipse" Cards that prevent to change Battle position from cards effects Strengths/Pros: It is a quick-spell card It does not target Contributes much to the mill/stall deck Is unlimited, you can use 3 in the deck A good stall/mill effect Does nt have any cost, or field/timing requirements Easy game play Can be used in almost any deck or in side deck for anti-meta (anti-counters, anti-light-sworn, anti-gladiators, anti-cloud ian, anti-syncron, etc...) it is Common Card Weaknesses/Cons: Makes your opponents draw cards, gives Hand Advantage to your opponents it can give some Advantage to your opponents if he is using Dark World or Fable decks. Since If your opponents have more than 6 cards in his hand during end of phase, he must discard cards from his hand until he have 6. It can activate the flip effects of the opponents monsters. Only comes in one set Artwork and aesthetics: Like a magical book from the ancient Egypt, represents the combination of Sun and Moon (book of Moon and Book of Sun "Taiyou") Eclipse. The color art is pleasant. Overall rating: I give 8, since it have great potential in almost any deck (since is similar to book of moon), beside mill/stall, but players are still not sensitive to it. |
