Fighting Planeswalker

General description:
Not a cheap planeswalker at 3 plus 2 white mana, starts high at 6. He can take the hit for you which only makes his stronger as a first ability. 2nd He destroy any tapped creature, a fitting after move if he survived being attacked or not. And 3rd becomes a creature himself and suffers no harm for it. In Essenes he is one of the only planeswalkers that put himself into the fray and gains from it.

Uses:
Great is soldier decks, he would be invaluable in taking down your opponents weaker creatures and if the bigger ones are tapped, takes them down to. His abilities are risky but combined with a army of soldiers he is an excellent general who fights from any side of the battlefield.

Strategies and game play:
Use his first ability whenever you are certain your opponent can only bring out weak or no creatures. Follow it up with taking the fight to them when you have an open shot. If your other creatures have protection "Concerted Effort" will make his a deadly force. With many new white decks boosting white creatures "Gideon" fits in well as an additional soldier and support.

Combos with other cards:
"Concerted Effort", "Honor the Pure", "Captain of the Watch", "Cenn's Tactician", "Field Marshall" and anything for soldiers. "Cenn's Tactician" allows him to block more then his share while being boosted by it, and both "Field Marshall" and "Captain of the Watch" make sure he remains a lead force among the soldiers.

Ways to counteract it:
Like all spells he can be countered normally, and his ability to enter the fray is always a risk. Not to mention he is a permanent and dies like they do, a favored way of targeting for players now.

Strengths/Pros:
A starting powerful planeswalker that can not only get stronger but can be boosted up as a creature. A 6 start is high for a planeswalker, and becoming a 6/6 creature is deadly.

Weaknesses/Cons:
Vulnerable in the fray and countered by spell counters, and permanent destroyers and creature destroyers.

Variations:
English, in Rise of Eldrazi pack as Mythic Rare.

Artwork and aesthetics:
Aleksi Bridot is the artist, and the imagery clearly shows a warrior. He is standing fully armored and one had is holding a whip of some form. The portrayal refers to the Essenes of a soldier which his abilities more the exemplify.

Overall rating:
8 out of 10
