My all time favorite Fire Card: Bolshack Dragon. I remember when i was 11 and DM just came out in america, I bought four booster packs for my first deck, and in the first one i got Bolshack Dragon. Then in the others i got King Ripped-Hide and Hanusa Radiance elemental, but I didn't care i got Bolshack Dragon! The all time trump of Shobu from the anime, and one of the most popular cards to date, having different variations, it's most recent, Bolshack Mobius
So his ability is that he gains +1000 for every fire card in your graveyard when he attacks. Meaning, the more fire that's in the grave, the more fuel he gets. So, if using a mono fire deck, make sure you balance out what cards you send to the grave from your mana, and how much mana you have when you want to summon Bolshack. If you're not careful, you'll have a grave full of fuel, but no way to use it because you burned your mana away. Darkness always a help though in it's own way.
Strategies and game play:
It's a Dragon, so think about the best support a Dragon can get from other cards. Fire Birds at this point are so common to any deck that Hints it has dragons, that it's ridiculous to not have any in a dragon deck. Mono Fire, is good for powering him up, or Mix it up with Darkness or Nature, Darkness sends things to the graveyard, so if you kill your fire creatures, they add power to Bolshack, and Nature obviously for it's Mana Build, to bring him out faster.
Combos with other cards:
Again, it's a Dragon. Dragons and Fire Birds, have a Buddy/Buddy relationship as old as Set 4 with Pippie Kuppie's effect of giving all Armored Dragons +1000. Cocco Lupia, Introduced in set 6, is the most popular Fire Bird, which has the ability to cut a Dragon's cost by 2. Quote from the card: Each Fire Bird is given a Dragon egg to take care of. After the Dragon hatches, the friendship lasts forever.
This proves the value Dragons and Fire birds have with each other.
Ways to counteract it:
Unfortunately since it's from base set, there's very simple ways to counter it, as with almost any card. Burn it's mana, Terror pit it, Natural Snare it, Spiral Gate it... wow, all triggers from the base set. Anyway, just make sure it ends up off the Battle Zone one way or another, because once it's out, your opponent can do whatever they want. It's a Dragon, so watch out for pains such as: Uber Dragon Bajula 2nd (see Bajula 2nd review to see how much of a pain it is ^^') and other Dragon evos
It uses the Fire cards in your graveyard to boost it's power by +1000 for each one. Simple and effective. Not no GV evolution or ninja strike, just a simple and straight forward effect.
While it's not attacking, it's power goes back to 6000. That's the only downside, if they have something to kill him.
There's a list, let's see there's: Neo Bolshack Dragon, Saint Bolshack Spiritual Dragon, Bolshack Yamato Dragon (Not a Samurai despite it's name), Bolshack Nex, Bolshack Cross Nex, and Bolshack Dragon, The temporal Blaze/Bolshack Mobius, Victory Awakened. So yeah, there is a LOT of version/upgrades to this card.
Artwork and aesthetics:
What's more original than a Dragon rising out of a volcano, covered in Razor sharp metallic armor all over his torso and wings and a giant lava covered flame claw? For those you ever heard or seen G Gundam, this should remind you of Bruning Gundam's Burning Fingers attack.
Seeing as it's the Trademark Card of Duel Masters, now and always, and the fact that it's part of my childhood, I have to give this card props. Besides all of that, it's ability to gain power from the graveyard is a great effect, since the retired cards still have a use even after leaving the battlezone. Not only that, but Dragons have the most evolution capabilities, as most Dragon evos can be summoned if they have Dragon in their race (Not Counting Dragonoids NOOBS!) used right he and his Fire Bird army can wreck havoc like he did when the game hit Japan back in 2002 (2004 for america) All in all, the big guy deserves a 10/10. Basic straight forward ability, as well as being my favorite card of all time
