Bolpheus Heaven, Super Holy Dragon!

About two years ago When i started to think about Duel Masters, I started watching various Anime Music Videos based on all of the crazy new creatures that i missed out on due to America's canceling of the game (Which hopefully with the new Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters TV Series coming soon, the TCG might get a revival). So, I found a Video showcasing the awesome creatures and Then i saw Bolpheus Heaven. My mouth dropped wide open. At that time, i thought this was the most absolute insane creature i've ever seen in the game. Unfortunately at the time i didn't know the name of it, let alone the creatures used to make up this Vortex Evolution. Then a year later I found TCO, go figure.

Anyway, I'm doing this review for the sole fact that i just love this guy. Natural Enemies Fire and Light are. But like Shobu and Hakuoh, they put their differences aside to turn into a crazy butt-kicking tag team. Which in my opinion defines Bolpheus and other Fire/Light creatures in a nutshell. So, with my Digimon Joke and my back-story aside, lets jump into the actual review.

2 creatures are slightly better than 1:
For those who've read my Ballcadeias review (if not go ahead and Vote if you haven't: Review of the week!! ) You should remember that i said that i was surprised that it wasn't a Vortex Evolution creature, like it would have you to believe. This guy is a Vortex Evolution. I'm assuming that Vortex Evolution sort of lost it's popularity as the Psychics started to come into the picture. But the real reason why i mention the Ballcadeias review, because i also mentioned how it took the abilities of his counterparts and made it into his own. It's the same scenario here.

On Bolmeteus Samurai Dragon's Side, we have the: When this creature attacks, you may send one of your shields to your graveyard. if you do, destroy one of your opponent's creatures with power 6000 or less.
Bolpheus now took his Bolmeteus Samurai Dragon's power and boosted it a bit, not a lot though. Now, by toasting one of your shields, you can destroy any amount of creatures whose power totals 6000 or less. Think of Hell's Scrapper, but its boosted by another 1000. And By total it means just that. So its not like you can destroy 3 Bolshack Dragons or something like that. The most that you can kill of them is one; because his power is 6000. So remember that, add up the total power of your targets, and set them ablaze with the Sun's heat.

Ulpherus Dragonic Spirit, a unique and rare creature (i was actually shocked to learn that it was a dragon the first time i seen it) With the ability: When you put this creature into the Battle Zone, if you have an Angel Command or Dragon in your graveyard, you may cast any spell with Shield Trigger from your hand for no cost.
Bolpheus Takes his other Counterpart's ability and makes it into a way that's better, but at the same time a bit limited. He takes away the shield trigger restriction, letting you cast any Spell in your hand (This screams the infamous Invincible Spells) Seems overpowered right? Yes, yes it does. That's why this power has restrictions; Only Fire and Light Spells can be used when he's summoned. The funny thing is that the deadly spells like Miraculous Meltdown and other Fire and/Or Light Multicolored Spells work fine with his ability. But more importantly, are the spells that are extremely expensive. I'll go more into detail about that as we continue on.

Other than that he's a 7 cost, 13000 Triple Breaker, with the races of Angel Command and Armored Dragon. Sweet, love the sound of that. But having an Armored Dragon and an Angel Command isn't east to pull of is it? Not really. That's why you can use any combination of the two. You can have the Dragon Brothers, Bolshack Yamato and Bolmeteus Samurai, or Ulpheus and Ultimus to use as bait. Just as long as their both Angel Commands and/or Armored Dragons.

The SkyFire General Wages war

KG: Skyfire Is the deck that I first used Bolpheus Heaven, and because of that, it's become one of my personal favorite decks. It's based on DMC-43 Never Ending Hero So expect to see some cards in the Skyfire deck that are in N.E.H.

Anyway the Strategy for KG: Skyfire is to basically play it out, work with what you have. I'm not kidding, Bolmeteus Samurai Dragon and his ragtag crew of Fire Offenders, and Light Defenders, manage to hold their own while they wait patiently for the General to make his grand entrance; and if not facing a rush deck or a deck focusing on ripping your creatures off the field (back to the hand or otherwise) he does just so; and does it so freaking well.

We have a 80% sale for all Dragons and Angel Commands, if you have your Cocco Lupia And/Or Ashliger membership cards.:

Awesome we're up to my favorite part of my reviews: The Combo Section!

That is One Hot Chick (Lupia Lapia)

OK Well let's get this out of the way. Cocco Lupia is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in almost every Dragon themed deck. I say almost because most Dragon decks are Fire-Based. Cocco Lupia subtracts the cost of all of your dragons, no matter where they are by 2. Using this with Bolpheus will make him a 5 costing Vortex Evo. Which is reasonably great for a triple breaker.

I Will Avenge my fallen General... I SWEAR IT!!

I can probably ease up on the coloring, but i probably wont; who knows? Anyway, not affecting Bolpheus directly, but who said that Bolpheus couldn't help his Army. I mean, that's what a leader is all about. Saint Bolshack has a ability which is similar to the Sympathy Mechanic (Which is an ability where your creature cost turns one less for every specific race you have in the Battle Zone) Instead of the Battle Zone, it affects the Graveyard. With Bolpheus' destruction, comes his successor. With Bolpheus, and the two base creatures sitting in the grave, Saint Bolshack Dragon's cost decreases to 3 then and there, putting him down to 6. And if Cocco Lupia's hanging out, then that's another 2 down.

Ugliest Cat I've ever seen (Asylum, the Dragon Paladin)
(I was gonna use the original pic, but TCO's lacking in awesome looking promo cards)

Why not? For all of you Darkness lovers who can't depart from your beloved Shadows, Ashliger will help you get at least one foot into the light and into the arms of Bolpheus. WIth Ashliger's ability to decrease the cost of Angel Commands, Bolpheus's cost continues to plummet.

Like it? I got a new paint job just for this special occasion(Asylum, the Dragon Paladin)

Speaking of Sympathy, Asylum's Sympathy drops his own cost for every Dragon and Angel Command. Unfortunately to note, Bolpheus only counts as one or the other, not both in this situation as it is 1 creature. But Asylum's ability does benefit Bolpheus. By turning into a shield once it dies, Bolpheus can use his fallen Lieutenant's remains to unleash a 6000 powered blast on your enemy.

I'm Master Ulpherus's Number 1 Disciple. My first lesson: carry these scales with me everywhere I go. (Maybe i should find a new master to train under...) (Ultimus, Spirit of Divine Law)

Ultimus, Spirit of Divine law, Perfect because it's a Blocker (which we all need) and Angel Command, (Because it's a perfect base) and it gives you a pick of a shield trigger when it bites the dust (Combination w/ Ulpherus, and you get a free Trigger to use for no cost)

Well that's some basic advantage points creature wise; So what about Spells?

Weapon of Choice

Running low on ammo? Invincible Aura can give you 3 brand new shields, so you can continue to wreak your opponent's defenses

Share the pain! Just because your sitting there destroying your shields, does not mean that your opponent should keep his. The complete Counterpart to Invincible Aura, Invincible Cataclysm Burns 3 of their shields to a crisp.

(In loving memory of Bolmeteus Sapphire Dragon... LOL Just Kidding, glad that thing's banned Couldn't type this with a straight face anyway)

Probably the only time Heaven and Hell should actually work together on a matter. This Powerful Spell destroys any amount of your opponent's creatures with Total power of 9000 or less. For every creature destroyed this way, a Shield is also destroyed. Now imagine using this on a bunch of really weak creatures. Ichi (1), Ni (2), San (3), Shi (4) Go (5) and those shields are gone. Bolpheus, Todomeda!!

Tyranno Link Nova, A spell that puts all of your opponent's shields to your hand. Careful though: Shield Triggers CAN be used. So using that is a bit of a 'Make it or Break it' kind of deal. This is an alternative to the Cheaper, Dual Civ Spell:

Which is only usable when your opponent has more shields than you do. And if you're that risk taking to let all of your shields break, just to use it to give him all of his back, then you're better off with the Nova.

Every Enemy has a weakness...
OK Think about this as a: How can my opponent bounce back from losing Bolpheus? kind of question. Using Terror pit or anything like that, just helps Saint Bolshack's hunger for beating the living daylights out of you. Not saying that it's a bad thing though. But really think about it for a second.

Lovely Queen, your beauty exceeds even the stars of the sky... and the useless toys that Bolpheus can't use against us... (Perfect Galaxy, Spirit of Immortality)

Man making these little quotes are just too much fun; But With Queen's ability of locking your opponent's spells to multicolored ones, unless your opponent is really packing that rainbow colored arsenal of unique but rarely used weaponry... Yeah Galaxy Shot's not happening, Cataclysm's a dud, and that Aura's a useless Care Package with a UAV inside, rather than the Chopper Gunner you need (CoD Reference)

The SkyFire General In 3 words (each explained as to why):
1. Powerful (3x Breaker and 13000 power)
2. Destructive (destroys certain amount of creatures if permitted)
3. Prepared (Once summoned, any light or fire spell can be used without cost)

Well... We've had better
The Vortex Evolution may be classic, but at this point in the TCG, it's kind of a let down to say the least. On top of that, while it may take the abilities of its counter parts, it doesn't improve on them so much as Ballcadeias did with his abilities (Kills all creatures and locks your opponent out of spells) but instead either limits or decrease the value.

In Bolmeteus' case, When teamed with it's Brother Bolshack Yamato Dragon, the 6000 power destruction is doubled, reaching up to 12000; Bolpheus cant do that.

Ulpheus, Any spell with shield trigger, no matter the civilization. Bolpheus limits you to Two civilizations.

Shout out to Yamato Dragon (RAWR!!!)

Gundam Skyfire
I love the artwork of Bolpheus Heaven. It's so Amazingly epic that i can't even describe it perfectly. Its a Golden armored Angel Command, with flaming red and orange wings, with Dragon Gauntlets with blades attached to him. And to top it all off it looks like a Mecha from a Japanese Anime (hence the subtopic title :3) This creature in my opinion represents the perfect unity that two enemy Civilizations can have with each other. Because this is beautiful.

Does he live up to the hype?
He gets a 9 out of 10. Why am i giving my all time Duel Masters Creature a 9/10? Simple reason: His abilities. Despite gaining both abilities from his counter part, they sort of downgrade. it's like taking one step forward, but a half-step back. His Bolmeteus effect may cover a wider area, but at the same time it loses the support of Bolshack Yamato Dragon, rendering it weaker than the full potential the two can do with it. Ulpheus, while upgrading to the point where the spell doesn't have to be a shield trigger, nor do you need an Angel command or Dragon in the grave, The civilization count drops by 3, leaving only fire, light and multicolored spells to work with.

Woot, another review done; I Guess i'll turn this into a weekly thing, Writing reviews is a fun activity when no one's online on TCO (Hits a dead-zone around 4:30pm until i guess 2:00am) (USA eastern standard time) Anyway i guess if I' m up for it, expect a new review next week.

And now here's Waileulkwu with some info that i missed that pertains to my review of course lol ;)

Oh and before I go, This is the Video that made me find Bolpheus Heaven (2nd creature after Bolmeteus Samurai Dragon) You can see for yourself why i love him so much

Awesome Duel Masters Creatures

Bolpheus Heaven doesn't have to be used to cast any normally uncastable spell...casting high-end (around cost 7) spells is also useful, Think Apocalypse Vise, Last Violence, and Hyperspatial Guard Hole.

lol got a point there, but just due to the fact that it can cast ANY light and/or fire spell, wouldn't that be implied? maybe i should've been more specific on that

I found out that Force Again really works with this card.It is done if you want to summon some more heavy artillery but don't have the mana required for it.But it is pretty risky because it forces you to use Light,Fire and Water in the same deck.

It is especially funny if you have 2 Invincible Cataclysms in your hand, even tho this event is rare.
Btw,awesome review.
