Since the release of DM-36 the game that we have come to know as Duel Masters has been 'flooded' by a new type of creatures, the Psychic Creatures, which came with their own zone, the Hyperspatial zone. That was the crucial moment when the game play had vastly changed... and the moment when this guy was no more in the game:
"Even though my husband has fallen, I shall loyally continue his legacy!"- Queen Alcadeias, Holy Gaia
Do you guys remember King Alcadeias, Holy Gaia? He was hot stuff two years ago, and now look at poor him, taking the first place in the Premium Hall of Fame. And it was all because he'd seriously ruin the whole putting Psychic Creatures in battle zone process.
However, that didn't stop the game creators to make new anti-psychic creature cards. Some of the creatures before this new set can already counter psychic decks pretty well:
"Thou shalt not cast inappropriate spells in the presence of thy Queen!"
Most Psychic Creatures (at least most of the big ones) require certain spells to be cast for their putting into battle zone, such as Hyperspatial Emperor Hole or Hyperspatial Gallows Hole. With Queen Alcadeias on the field, you can bid adieu to most of those spells, with the exception of Guard Hole and the new rainbow civ Hyperspatial spells from DMR-02 and DMR-03.
"You might want to dig for more mana in case I get hungry. Just saying..."-Uberdragon Bajula
Of course, Uberdragon Bajula and his younger brother, Bajula the 2nd, as well as his cross gear: Bajula's Soul, are perfect for mana burning, thus rendering your Hyperspatial spells and creatures which can summon Psychics to be useless.
Of course, there are more older cards that can take down Psychic Creatures, but let us look at what anti-Psychics are the new sets offering us
"Those Psychics aren't getting away that easily, let's give them what they deserve!" -Bolshack Superhero
Of course, Fire, the one civilization which offers us many amazing Psychic Creatures such as Gaial King Dragon, Raging Dragon Lord or Last Storm Double Cross has to bring out anti-Psychic cards as well. King of ironic in my view. >.>
Oh well, some good cards to use against the unsuspecting Psychic Creature user would be 'Bring it to 'em! Psychic', the spell from above, 'Bolshack Superhero', 'Gil Bolshack Cross NEX' and 'Answering Questions is Useless! Ogre Boy'.
But wait, the Fire civilization isn't the only one that can handle us anti-Psychic cards.
"There will be nothing left of them but space dust once we are through with their strongest warriors!" -Codename Sherlock
Of course, the brand new weapon against Psychic Creatures, the broken Codename Sherlock. He's perfectly straight to the point: all Psychic Creatures die and you guys can't put them into battle zone anymore! What more could you ask for, Psychic Creature haters? Of course, its big down point is its cost, but we'll talk about that in another review.
"There is only one thing these psychics deserve: destruction!" -Ogre Kaiser "Destruction"
The Hunter/Alien version of Genji Double Cross brings forth psychic removal abilities contrasted to its blocker destroying counterpart.
"When the Pandora space was destroyed, the Guards of Hope received the 'cure' against psychic creatures. Funk got the best medicine out of them all." -Liger Blade, Fierce Tiger
Compared to Liger Blade, Funk's anti-psychic effect is lasting for as long as it lives in the battle zone. Having two Funks guarantees your opponent's psychics being screwed up. To make matters worse for the psychics, Funk costs 5 so it can be easily be brought out early in the game.
"Cower before the new King of the Darkness Jungle!" -Liger Blade, Fierce Tiger
Here it is, folks, the one and only Liger Blade, Fierce Tiger! You may cease your applause.
This creature is the first Demon Command to have specific anti-Psychic Creature abilities, thus not taking into consideration the universal 'destroy a creature' effect of Thunder Blade, Wolf Tiger, Deathraios, Cursed Blade Reaper & co.
What makes this creature special is not only its effects, but also its race, so let's find out how you use this beast.
There isn't much to say about how to use Liger Blade. Its effect is an evolution of Bolshack Superhero's effect, both mentioned creatures being used to wipe out smaller creatures or Psychic Creatures.
Strategies and game play:
If Bolshack Superhero took down Psychic Creatures and small Creatures depending on their power, Liger Blade takes them depending on their cost, which in my view is much better. This creature can counter small rushy creatures and a great number of Psychic Creatures. The Psychics which are prone to fall to the Liger's cold Blade of Death are usually the small ones, the unawakened ones (with small exceptions such as Diabolos Zeta, Temporal Ruler) and the 2 or 3 parts of Psychic Link creatures just before they manage to link themselves. Now the last is enough of a good reason to have Liger Blade in your deck, especially if you wish to go against Psychics!
Combos with other cards:
If you wish to get this creature into the battle zone, I see two possibilities:
1 The first option would be the classic one with Nature and its mana giving or cost reducing cards such as these:
Although, there is more cost reducer which would work great with Liger Blade as well:
"You're not the only Liger around here!" -Ashliger, Holy Dark Beast
Now how fitting is that? Turn 4: Ashliger and turn 5: Liger Blade. Poor opponent's psychics won't know what hit them.
2 The second and my favorite way to get Liger Blade is through the good ol' Darkness/Water combo. Now what are these two civlizations best at? I'll give you a hint: it involves the hand :3
"It's time to cook up a new fabulous strategy!" -Atsuto, Duel Hero Strategist
Atsuto, Duel Hero Strategist, Deepsea Typhoon and Emergency Typhoon all have a thing in common: they let you draw cards, then discard cards from your hand. This way you will be assured that you'll get Liger Blade in your hand. And then... you'll discard it. Of course, that might sound like a crazy thing to do, but it won't be that crazy as long as you also have these:
"Death is nothing but an Inferno. Let us make life an Inferno as well!" -Romanoff the 1st, Lord of the Demonic Eye
"Our Hunters shall live again and avenge their fallen comrades!" -Dark GUY, Romanoff Zero
If you discard Liger Blade, don't forget that Miracle Re Born and Inferno Sign are there for you to revive it. That way you can either get a Liger Blade early during turn 5 to wipe out potential Psychic creatures OR you can surprise your opponent by getting Liger Blade out of the grave through an Inferno Sign shield trigger.
Besides getting Liger Blade in the battle zone, you should also take into consideration the fact that it takes down some of your creatures as well. If that's so, you can always depend on these two:
"I'll gladly give up my life as long as I have a good adventure!" -Zabi Fly, the Pillager
"The Super Trash Train at your service, sir!" -Super Trash Train, Fuuma Devil
Of course, the old strategy of gaining benefit from sacrificing your own creatures, such as discarding your opponent and getting cards for yourself. Besides this, you can also let your Shaman Broccoli die at the hands of Liger Blade if you're desperate to have more mana.
Another good thing about Liger Blade is that its race is Demon Command/Hunter, and I guess you all know what that means:
"It's time to transform this Jungle into an Empire!" -Ballom Emperor, Lord of Demons
"King of the Darkness Jungle? Please, I prefer to be the King of all Hunters!" -Ballom Hunter, Lord of Demons
I chose these two specifically because one evolves from Demon Commands, the other evolves from Hunters and thus I wanted to show the importance of both races of Liger Blade.
Ways to counteract it:
Behind the awesome creature-wiping effects lies a simple double breaker. Sure, its power is 7000 and saves it from many destructive spells such as Super Flaming Hell's Scrapper, but most of the time its cost and summoning sickness will be its downfall.
"Feel the vengeful anger of those whom you have killed!" -Ballom Monarch, Lord of Dark Reapers
Hades Death Gate is the one thing that most duelists fear. Not only does it take down your creature, but it also revives your opponent's creature based on your destroyed creature's cost! And since Liger Blade costs 7, don't expect anything nice to come from your opponent's grave once Death Gate is used.
Of course, there are the classic Terror Pit & co, but I won't get into detail with these as most of you know them already
-Great destruction ability
-Stops Psychic Links or Psychic Awakening
-Good evo bait for bigger creatures
-No more useful effects
-Can be easily killed after it's put into the battle zone
So far we only got its version from DMX-07.
Artwork and aesthetics:
A dark blue Liger warrior wielding two big blue swords. I like it, especially since it has my favorite color and a variation of my favorite animal, the lion Though the orange horns are kind of strange, especially in the V position in which they are put.
Meh, I'll give it a 9/10 for the artwork.
Overall, this card is great against psychic decks, but I wouldn't recommend it against rush decks because of its high cost. Its cost also brings its downfall in the battle zone most of the time, but it is a great evo bait for other bigger and badder creatures.
So I shall give Liger Blade, Fierce Tiger a... 8/10. Generally, it is a treat for Demon Command or darkness Hunter decks.
Now that this review is over, I wish you all... happy Hunting! And may the King guide your way ;)
