General description:
Okay so Wind-up Zenmaines what is so special about this card you might ask? Well let me break it down for you. Zenmaines is a rank 3 exceed monster with 1500 atk 2100 def and his effect is amazing!!! When zenmaines would be destroyed you can detatch 1 xyz material to prevent this from happening, so pretty much he can't be destroyed up to 2 times, but that isn't to greatest part. After detatching a xyz material at the end of the turn if Zenmaines is still on the field you HAVE to destroy 1 card on the field.
Uses:
i Find Zenmaines a very great card to open with on the first turn. He is very easy to summon with most of the decks like inzektor, wind-up, and fish decks with all these lvl 3 monsters that special summon and swarm the field he is extremely easy to pull out on the first turn. That's not even including Tour Guide From the Underworld, which is now in pretty much any and every deck.
Strategies and game play:
One of my favourite combos for Zenmaines is dark hole or torrential tribute while it's the only monster you control and they control spell and trap cards. This card allows you to wipe their field of monsters and also destroy any spell or trap along with it. Zenmaines is a very vicious card when it comes to a "My back's against the wall" situation. Having zenmaines on the field allows you to strike fear into your opponent because they are afraid of destroying it if they have important cards on the field such as T.G. Hyper Librarian or Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon.
Combos with other cards:
Dark Hole and Torrential Tribute combo very well with Zenmaines; also having spells and traps such as dimensional prison and Forbidden Lance or Forbidden chalice can protect you from attacks that could destroy zenmaines while he has no xyz material or effects that could possibly remove him from play. Forbidden lance is a very amazing card with Zenmaines; it allows you to lower the opponents monster's atk by 800 which could save zenmaines or it can make Zenmaines immune to spells and traps for one turn such as Dimensional prison.
Ways to counteract it:
The best way to counteract or prepare yourself for Zenmaines are cards that include effects that remov from play or return a card to the hand. Dimensional Prison, Chaos Sorcerer, Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and Compulsory Evacuation Device are all good choices to defend yourself agaisn't Zenmaines.

Strengths/Pros:
1. This card is extremely easy to get out in this format.
2. It can destroy any card of your opponents and it is very hard to get rid of.
3. Great card for stalling when your in a sticky situation.
4. has pretty high defense for a rank 3.

Weaknesses/Cons:
1. If you have only it and a bunch of traps/spells on the field and your opponent uses dark hole you have to destroy one of your own cards.
2. it's relatively weak in atk power.
3. Without any xyz material it wastes a monster spot if you're running a heavy swarming deck like inzektor or wind-up.


Variations:
There are only 3 variations of this card.
1. The English version from the Photon Shockwave booster pack, which is a secret rare
2. The Japanese version from the Gold Series - Common
3. The Japanese version fromthe Gold Series - Gold Ultra

Artwork and aesthetics:
I love the artwork of Wind-up Zenmaines. The style is very colorful and bright and gives you the distinct look of a toy, which is the whole reason they are called Wind-ups.

Overall rating:
1(That card you keep getting in the booster pack your sick of.) - 10 (Staple) i give this card a 9

great review. only other weakness i could think of you didnt mention is cyber dragon/chimeratech fortress being that it is a machine. oh and it is also getting a super rare reprint in the excalibur and evolzar dolkka tins
