Okay, first, I want you to know that this is my very first card review so I'm starting with my all favorite card: 'Petrova, Channeler of Suns', the most wicked card in terms of its combination of cost, power, and ability. THIS is the creature most duelist love/hate to see (depending on the side of the battle field you're on). When I uses a light deck, I always make sure Petrova is in there. And sometimes, even if it isn't, Petrova is still there. Why? Just read her effects man!
Petrova is THE most powerful power-giver than any creatures I know. It gives a +4000 power to your chosen race . AND it's not affected by any card effects. If your opponent will choose a creature to destroy, bounce, etc., well, he can't choose her. So she can be the ultimate support out there!
One thing you should know is that when you're going to choose a race, you can't choose a 'group of races' like creatures with Dragons/ Cyber in its race. Nope, you have to be Specific. And can't choose 'Mecha Del Sol', her family race, so you can't power up herself and other Mecha Del Sols. But it's okay since that race is pretty rare right?
Strategies and game play:
Petrova works best to a single race decks giving an intense +4000 power to almost all your other creatures you may add her to a race of initiates, death puppets, cyber lords, and all other cool races that needs a boost up (Take the three races given, they're known w/ their good effects but in dire in terms of power).
Just as I said, Petrova has the highest chance of survivability 'cause your opponent can't harm her but is very vulnerable to attacks and blockers. So in my opinion, try not to attack with her so she can't be attacked. Also, give her aid with blockers in any case you bump with creatures who can attack untapped creatures. That'll make her survive long.
Combos with other cards:
Speaking of survive, the greatest cards to combo w/ Petrova is the race of 'Survivors' O.0 BOOM!! We're talking crazy here. While the Survivors are powerful together, Petrova makes sure that they will be INVINCIBLE!! I tell you! INVINCIBLE!!. *cue evil laugh*
Well, as I gain my sanity back I can tell you that there's more ways to combo Petrova, and they are (but not limited to):
1. A Race Deck (recommendations: Your favorite race of course.)
2. 'Pala Olesis, Morning Guardian' (Protects her, +2000 power to your other creatures. Meaning Petrova is 5500 now and the powered up race gets +6000 power now. )
3. Another 'Petrova' (because one just isn't enough. Imagine, Bronze-arm tribe with 9000 power. even more Just Imagine the power of other "already powerful" creatures out there!)
4. 'Soulswap' (if you charged her for some reasons, e.g., 'faerie Life'/ 'Bronze-arm Tribe's effect) claim her back by using this)
5.'Mihail, Celestial Elemental' (She has a good survivability We know it and adding Mihail will make her INDESTRUCTIBLE! The downside is that your opponent's creatures are indestructible too so I won't recommend it. She is good enough w/out Mihail so...)
6. 'Magmadragon Ogrist Vhal' (Powering up Ogrist Vhal ensures that he will be safe 'coz his +4000 prevents his death from hand depletion. Plus, you'll only need 4 cards to make him a triple breaker. Pretty Neat, right?
7. Kinda run out of ideas here, so I bet you can come up with your own combos.
Ways to counteract it:
Now you're the one suffering from Petrova's wrath eh? One obvious way to counteract it is to attack it. Shouldn't be hard to find a creature with 3500 or more power. But it is when trying to attack her untapped while avoiding blockers if your opponent had any. You can just use Sonic Wing on a Gatling Skyterror out of a deck to deal with it. OR, use 'Relentless Blitz'. Problem solved.
Want alternatives? Here's another way, and it's all for one word: all. Logic clearly states that you can't choose her, but when using the word 'all' you don't really do the choosing right? Use 'Holy Awe' to tap her along with all her friends and go trigger-happy with your creatures, 'Galklife Dragon' also counts, 'blizzard of spears', 'Ballom, Master of Death', and even 'Invincible abyss' if you have to.
Having cards like that seems costly, anything else? Yes, there is. You can't choose her to suffer from effects but it doesn't mean YOUR OPPONENT can't choose her! If she is the only creature in your opponent's battle zone, chances are, you can kill it by cards like 'Proclamation of Death', 'Rothus, the Traveler', 'Vine charger', 'Trixo, Wicked doll', etc.
Additionally, thanks to one reviewer, madromanoff, there's Nariel, the Oracle, she prevents any creatures with 3000 power or more from attacking. Thus, disabling the powered up creatures making them look more like decorations in the field.
Much as I like to enumerate it. I guess you already know it. For 5 mana she has +4000 power to your chosen race, she can't be chosen by the enemy, and has 3500 power (though a bit weak, not bad for 5 mana creature with devastating effects). What more could you want? Double breaker?
Even with all that power possessed she had a number of weaknesses. For one, she should be afraid of 'Relentless Blitz', for she can be attacked even untapped and her blocker friends won't be of any help. Second, this 'all' business I discussed. She is also not a very good shield breaker/ attacker so best leave it to other creatures.
Also, one of Petrova's weakness that I forgot to mention is that when you choose a race, Petrova powers up each creature of that race BOTH yours or your opponent's so careful there when facing another deck using the same race as yours or your enemy can turn it to his/her favor.
Due to her amazing prowess, she had variations, 4 to be precise excluding the English one.
And her second ability made a cross gear based after her: 'Patrial Flame' featuring her in the artwork
Artwork and aesthetics:
Not much I know about art but it is very good actually. Quite astonishing and shouts "You better be scared of me" pretty well while staying the beauty of light intact.
9.5 out of 10. Though I can't think of a card too perfect for a 10, Petrova gets a 9.5, the highest rating a card can get.
