card review Sanctuary Guard Dragon: Turn every grade 1 to 'charge' his 'Shining Sword'!
Sanctuary Guard Dragon
Turn every grade 1 to "charge" his "Shining Sword"!
written by whitedragon LV3
Sanctuary Guard Dragon (SGD) is a Royal Paladin card bornt from the Daigo Special Set. Thanks to his appearance, the Royal Paladin player have another nice choice for a unit worthy to stand at the VG circle. This card quickly rose to be my favorite RP ace card.
While this card might be not powerful as Majesty Lord Blaster who could constantly got 12k and 2 critical and crazily threaten your opponent even without LB. SGD is more consistent and provide greater advantage for setting up your field. And his LB is pretty decent.
Card ability analyze
One VG player ever commented :
“This card offered you an advantage whether in early stage or late game.”
I agreed. Let's examine his ability.
His 1st ability is when you place him at (VG) circle, you could superior call (later summarize to “S call”) a RP grade 1 from your deck at the cost of discard 1, strengthen your field at early game.
Without minus a card, you call any grade 1 you want, this is just amazing. And more importantly, unlike the majority of Royal Paladin / Gold Paladin’s S call ability, you don’t need a single CB to activate it!
Thus, ride SGD at VG circle not only strengthen your field, but preserve your CB at the same time, leaving CB freely used for other purpose.
His 2nd skill activate at Limit Break 4, for each grade 1 or less RP rearguards, this unit power +3000. This is his another decent skill, means more booster you have, more powerful he is!
Remember, this is Royal Paladin! Setting the full field is pretty easy, and that’s definitely no difficulty to gain 9k boost with three grade 1 at your back-row! With such power boost, SGD could easily reach 26k or greater, a dangerous attack power to your opponent if he don’t have PG on hand.
His LB is definitely good at late game.
Strategy for using this card
If you’re going to ride SGD for grade 3 at early game, you’d better preserve your grade 1 on hand and only call them for necessity. Let SGD to replenish your booster on field instead! If you do this, you play right.
Try to get more grade 1 to your (RG) circle is definitely important due to his LB ability, with three grade 1 at your back-row, your SGD will be in full strength at LB4.
Break Ride is strongly not recommended unless you’re out of option. Since BR upon Ashley only give you power 10k / crit +1, not really worthy to tarry you a turn for such strength. If your opponent just throw a PG, such power is nothing! And don’t forget BR upon him minus 1 as well, and enable your opponent a turn to relax, preverse his hands and well-prepared for your BR strike.
Combo with other cards
Battle Flag Knight, Constance is definitely the best grade 2 backup for SGD. Use him to S call a grade 1 would help SGD’s Limit Break.
Also, SGD don’t need CB, almost ensure you could freely use his skill at your will! Whether S call or force shield from your opponent is great!
High Dog Breeder, Akane is another “grade 1 summoner”, a good backup for consideration.
The skill don’t require attack hit makes her pretty decent.
The downside is 1k less, “on-call” ability and could only call High Beast.
Uncompromising Knight, Idell is a very useful beater for SGD deck. He is 8k, and reach 12k by CB1 when attack, looks not so-impressing at first glance.
Really? I emphasize again, SGD don’t need CB, so you almost use his skill freely.
But more importantly.…you could call a booster by SGD to form the powerful column!
Don’t forget RP have a wonderful 9k booster, Toypugal! 21k column by just 1 CB, isn’t it amazing? Also, 10k Rendgal when S call from deck, make him 22k! Even with a 6k booster, he could still reach 18k att power!
S call any of them right behind Idell by SGD is a very good idea.
Toypugal is a 9k booster with double G3 on field, he is awesome in any deck, but SGD make him even more awesome.
Rendgal is a 10k booster in a turn you S call him from deck, no need to explain why he’s good to mix with SGD.
Pongal may be an option when you’re going to use Soul Saver Dragon for “final push” instead of SGD.
Sword of Hope, Richard is an awesome unit to support SGD, no doubt!
By just S call him with SGD skill, not only you earn a 6k booster, your hand plus 1 as well!
Strengthen field and increase hand at the same time, it’s just awesome! My favorite combo of SGD deck.
I set a name for this combo – “Dual Sword”
Rainbow Calling Bard is a specific booster of SGD. Not really necessary since SGD’s att power is already powerful enough with LB. Consider him if you prefer.
Pure Heart Jewel Knight, Ashley is a good alternative option when you can’t ride SGD at first. Power +10k and crit +1 combine with SGD's LB is certainly a nightmare to your opponent if he do not have PG on hand. But I suggest ride SGD at priority.
Swordman of the Explosive Flame, Palamides, SGD could give him a booster and make him more awesome!
How to against this card?
Cut down his grade 1 , XD!! Kagero (perhaps even Narukami) could do this job very easily! SGD is just a weak VG without / scarce of grade 1 RG as support.
Even Link Joker is a deadly threat to this white dragon.
1. Strong Field (nice grade-1 summoner)
2. Preserve CB (use CB for other units at your will!)
3. Tremendous attack power with Limit Break (over 26k without difficulty!)
One Phrase : Constantly-powerful force!
1. Weak without / scarce of grade 1 RG as support
2. Perfect Guard! The incredible attack power with LB is nothing!
3. As a “game-finisher”, he’s definitely not strong enough without powerful RG column(s) as support
The pure white dragon shone forth and wield the shining sword!! The image is awesome!
I gave him 9. This card is just amazing whether for image and ability.
Everyone, please rate this card review and give any ideas / opinions, thanks.
