This is the first Inuyasha deck I put together. I know it isn't very good, but I leave it here to remind myself what a truly poor deck builder I was before hikarilink provided some advice.

I'll say the same thing I said about most of the decks on here: you must run multiples of cards to win and you must pick a theme. I've already made nine completely different decks with entirely different play styles and I've still got a countless amount more left to make. Granted, I played this game competitively for over a year, but that was like 3 years ago. I know my decks need work, but it's been a while and I have played with any of them on here yet, since nobody is ever on, so I can't tweak them for consistency. Just think about what you want to do with the deck and then make it work towards that.

I agree with your comments, hikarilink. Keep in mind that, as the name of my deck indicates, this was my first deck, both on TCO and for Inuyasha. At the time, is was basically just whatever cards I had. As I've gotten more cards and been playing a bit, my decks have, I think, gotten better.

Of course, and as time goes on you will continue to understand the game better and create better decks. Here's some general pointers:

Staples for every deck:
Is That All You Got?
Here He Comes to Save the Day!
On the Move
Whirlwind Slice
City Street
School Hallway
Halt!

There are a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head and not all of these should be in every deck, but every deck should continue at least a portion of these. There are also a few deck-specific staples that I won't get into now. Now on to deck construction.

Typically, you should run 6-8 copies of a character, depending on the deck type and variety of characters. This ensures that you can almost always save your characters. In a deck where you are running a lot of different characters, like Band of Seven, then 5-6 copies of a character is acceptable, but in a deck like Protectors or Three's Company, the number should be closer to 10 each. The point being, you should have about 30-40 characters in your deck, though 40 is mainly for decks that have a lot of different types of characters or a lot of weak characters. Note that some characters are less important than others in the overall theme of the deck and can be run in fewer amounts than the more crucial characters, but they still shouldn't number much less than 4.

When appropriated slots to different versions of a character, you should almost never run more than two versions of a character, unless it is something like Three's Company, and you typically want one of the two types to have a Power-Up effect, in which case you want to run 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, or 5-2, with the first number representing the crucial version of the character that you want out the majority of the time and the second number representing the Power-Up version that you will use when necessary. This is to ensure you have your crucial characters at all times. Of course, it isn't always necessary to run different versions of a character. Often, it is best to run all of the same versions, but occasionally you'll find a very useful Power-Up effect.

Moving on from characters, let's discuss items. Items have the potential to be very useful, but how do you know what the right item for you is? Typically, you want items that are specific to your central character, which you should usually have. First step is to look at all versions of that item and decide which is the best suited for your deck type. The higher the stat increase, the better, though sometimes effects can change that. In addition to things for your main character, you should consider putting in a few generic items that anyone can use. A good item count is about 3-8, with about 2-4 copies of each item, depending on importance.

Now for events. I've already briefly touched on staple events, but also consider the other events in your deck. Your deck should typically have about 10-20 events, depending on the type. You usually want at least a few that increase your stats, but never run events that increase only one or two specific stats, because sometimes, that isn't the stat you need. There are plenty of great events that increase all stats, so they aren't hard to find.

Then there are just events that are good for your theme. Think about what you are running and use events that seem like they will be useful toward furthering your goals. Keep in mind that if an event has a limit to the amount you can run in your deck, you should almost always run that many, because that's how many they have decided is the maximum amount you can run without breaking the game and since you wanna win, you should push it to the limit. For events with no limit, 3-5 is a good number, though higher is good, depending on importance. Almost never run things in 1s or 2s if you aren't forced to, or else you won't ever pull it off.

Finally, locations. Locations are useful in most decks, but in small amounts. When you find a location you like, 3 copies is usually enough, but 5 is alright if it is necessary to win. Much higher and you'll have too many hanging around in your hand.

That's really the majority of what I know about deck building for Inuyasha. Hopefully, it will help you and other players make better, more efficient decks. If anyone has any questions or wants help with their deck, you can respond here, because I'm subscribed to it, or you can send me a message. Same goes for if you want to play. I'm usually down for a game and with instant e-mail notifications, I can usually respond very quickly.
