so I haven't really been involving myself in YuGiOh in awhile. ALOTT has changed, and well I think my beatdown may be out of style. Any ideas on what a perfect one is like now?

Beatdown can still work, but you'll need to modify it severely: basically, you need to pack cards to negate your opponent's Effect monster effects, or clever effect usage will either counter your strategy entirely or gain your opponent the upper foot so that you can't build up your own field in time to stop them.

Cards which may be worth your while considering:

Skill Drain
Divine Wrath
Effect Veiler

It's also worth utilising cards like Trap Stun, Seven Tools of the Bandit or Dark Bribe to negate your opponent's Traps (since the next biggest threat to beatdown is being annihilated by traps before you can swing in and kill your opponent's monsters).

as for partially competitive builds for beatdown atm, probably Malefic Valley Drain(Malefic Stardust and End Dragon with the control factor Necrovalley gives(and its searchability) tagged along with Skill Drain, Deck Deveastation Virus/Eradicator Virus and Fuselier Dragon(fuselier dragon although weaker than beasat king barbaros, its a legal target for the virus cards being dark)
