Wild Mongrel
written by red_raven

General description:
2 mana for a 2/2 creature. Pretty standard fare, all things considered. That is until you look at its ability.

Uses:
At the moment, I can see Golgari decks making prolific use of this card because of its custom discard. This card could become a real threat if a player uses the mongrel to discard a few Grave Trolls, for example.

Strategies and game play:
Pretty much the only colour that can properly put it down is Blue. For Green, Red or White, there isn't really a simple answer except combat, around which it will pump to survive. Even direct damage from red has to be of overkill value just to make sure the job gets done, and even that's not a guarantee. Giant growth. Black will have a hard enough time as well. +1/+1 and it's black, oh Hand of Death can't touch it...oh what a shame, heh heh heh...

Combos with other cards:
Brawn and Exoskeletal armour are prime picks along with dilligent farmhands with muscle bursts.

Ways to counteract it:
(u) Unsummon and counterspell , (w) pacify or tap effect creatures, (b)Edicts or 'assassin' effects (Visara, Royal assassin), (r) lots of damage that cant be prevented and denies the possibility of regeneration, (g) Big hulking monstrosities or 'fog' effects

Strengths/Pros:
Cheap, fast and incredibly powerful if used well. Fast Agressive beatdown if you can maximise its ability.

Weaknesses/Cons:
If used too prolifically, you may end up with nothing to cast. The mongrel will draw a lot of fire, and from time to time you will just have to let it die. It's not as if you don't have another one (or three), is it?

Overall rating:
9
