A little bit on Gears:
Ancient Gears are a series of monsters that started their appearence in The Lost Millenium. Their abilities mainly consist in possesing "invincibility" in battle but their powerful effects are counteracted by their inability to be specialled summoned. Let's take a look at "The Boss" of the Ancient Gears. The Ancient Gear Golem...

General description:
Ancient Gear Golem is the headliner in The Lost Millenium series booster pack. This monster is similar to his past forms the Ancient Gear Soldier and the Ancient Gear Beast. But instead of negating the effects of the monsters he destroys in battle (like Ancient Gear Beast) he gets the trample effect which makes him an extremely powerful monster.

Uses:
As with all Ancient Gears you should expect to have them in the field for at least two turns. In between of those two turns you should manage to deliver two big blows to your opponent's lifepoints before they get permanently destroyed.

Strategies and game play:
This card hasen't seen much play lately because on his demand that he can only be normal summoned. Before taking him out into play you must be sure that there is nothing waiting facedown to destroy him because if there is, you lost him for the complete duel because he can't be specialled summoned. Concentrate on taking him out and delivering a few big blows to your opponent's lifepoints before he gets destroyed.

Combos with other cards:
Since Ancient Gear Golem can't be specialled summoned you must look for ways to make him reach the field as soon as posible. An easy combo with him is using the abilities of the Ancient Gear Castle to make him reach play. Another way to make him reach play is to have monsters that can survive the field so they can be tributed. One fine exaple of this would be Big Shield Guarna. Once in play, the best thing to do is combine him with Limiter Removal to deliver a "Final Blow" on your opponent. Having a 6000/3000 monster with trample effect and invincibility in battle makes this one tough guy to survive from. If you want to keep him in play, the best card for the job is Heavy Mech Support Platform giving him a 500 point boost to the alredy 3000/3000 monster and making him survive one trip to the graveyard while this card is equipped to him.

Ways to counteract it:
This card is easily counteracted by cards that can stop a summon like Trap Hole, any card that can be activated out of the battle phase like Enemy Controller and Smashing Ground and any ability that can discard him from the hand like Don Zaloog and Confiscation.

Strengths/Pros:
This card posseses a whoping 3000/3000 for just two tributes. He has the "trample" effect and also an inmunity to all spell and traps that can only be activated in the battle phase like Magic Cylinder, Sakuretsu Armor and the all-popular Mirror Force.

Weaknesses/Cons:
There are a lot of weaknesses to this card that I think I mentioned them alredy but you should be careful that your opponent doesn't use Brain Control or Snatch Steal because that much power you possses to destroy your opponent may be your own downfall but if you used it properly you may not have to worry about it though.

Variations:
In the English TCG, this card can only be found in Ultra or Ultimate Rare in The Lost Millenium set.

Regular Value:
Ultra= Ranges from $27.99 to $39.99
Ultimate= Ranges from $34.99 to $49.99

Artwork and aesthetics:
Looks like he's been through a lot of wars but still he's as powerful as ever!

Overall rating:

In a deck built around him: 9.5/10
In a normal deck with just him in it: 7.2/10

Overall Rating: 8.1/10 (some people prefer to use the Ancient Gear Beast because of his "Dark Ruler Ha Des effect") but still he's still a fine-looking specimen. Needs someone with experience to make the best of him.

I agree, besides the sacred beast reviews, this is one of the better ones within the last few weeks.
