Death Phoenix, Avatar of Doom Black Flames of Death and the Shadow of Destruction... Avatar Reviews Part 5 written by shuriken6 recommend that you read:
If you've read them, Move on... Revival of Doom What's up people? It's shuriken6 with Part 5 of the Avatar Reviews! *Sigh* well I had started this but my Laptop just had to have a breakdown... So now i gotta start over. I don't wanna but i don't got a choice, this needs to get done. Without further ado, Here's Drake and Sarina introducing the 5th and Final Avatar...
Death Phoenix, Avatar of Doom is the 5th and Final Avatar of the quints, reigning over the Fire and Darkness Civilizations. In both Vortex Wars and in the DM Anime series, Death Phoenix has played the Antagonist Role, the first Duel Masters movie: Curse of the Death Phoenix, along with being used in some of the DMC Decks used by the Antagonist such as Zakira. In Vortex Wars, Death Phoenix, like the other Avatars took on a Human persona, his being Daisuke "Drake" Saito, Sarina's brother. Drake served as the leader of Team Zero and the Main Antagonist of Vortex Wars, his plans dealing with a 6500 year revenge plot against the Avatars, who left him for dead once he defected from the group, angered by the decision by the civilizations to make Aura Pegasus the Leader of the Avatars rather than him, who was a Soul Phoenix at the time. The Death Phoenix body that Drake was, was a zombie-fied Soul Phoenix, that the Darkness civilization decided to experiment on. Destructive Blaze (Didn't have a booster pack for it... So Cool-looking Japanese reprint it is Death Phoenix, Avatar of Doom is the Vortex Evolution of Fire Birds, and Zombie Dragons. What makes Death Phoenix so unique is that it shares many similarities to it's Soul Phoenix Counterpart. For Example:
But they also have their differences such as:
Now this is the part where you go: He Destroys shields!? Haha, but you guys definitely did that when you opened that booster pack and got him. Yes, the Big Bad Black Bird can incinerate Shields just like a certain Dragon, which will remain nameless... Like I said Nameless, if you can't read Japanese then thats your fault. Moving on we have the Removing abilities of said Birdie. Drum Roll... *Drum Roll* Hand Incinerating: In other words, Once Death Phoenix leaves, your opponent discards his hand. Helpful for those Water decks that rely on hand building, or even better if Death Phoenix is involved with a deck featuring Creature Bouncing and/or Creatures with the "No Choice" Ability. Keep in mind though that currently there are cards that counteract Discards such as: ![]() Sanfist, the Savage Vizier Terradragon Arque delacerna And the Biggest and I mean BIGGEST pain in the butt... (Keep in mind that my review for him was before i discovered how annoying he is) Eternal Meteor Kaiser... I swear every time I see that card hit the battle zone I imagine my opponent going: ![]() But we'll focus more on that in the counter section, for now let's just keep moving... Cross #5: Doom I actually have 2 decks for this section. The first one is one I made KG: Doom Cross Which was Drake's deck used throughout Vortex Wars. The second deck is by one of my closest TCO Buddies Kokujo_the_fma with Drake's deck used in the final battle: Drake's Deck which was a slightly updated version of Drake's deck. Both were Zombie Dragon decks w/ Fire Bird Support such as Cocco Lupia and Chitta Peloru, the Zombie Dragons including Giland, Galzark, Divine Destruction Dragonmech and Abzo Dolba to name a few. Phoenix's Army of Destruction with each set block comes new and crazy awesome creatures to add on to the Races. And compared to the older generation of Zombie Dragons in the English Sets... I think they did a good job with updating them. I may be a Knight, but I know my way around a Desert Eagle- (Romanoff the 1st) Romanoff the First is the perfect example of new Zombie Dragon additions. Despite being 7 mana, he has the ability to cast darkness spells with a cost of 6 or less from the grave, making it so that Terror Pit Shield trigger can go back for round two; and with 8000 base power, he can hold his own without too much of a threat. Samurai and Aliens... they're all the same to me. Just tell me what to shoot and it's dead. (Dark GUY Romanoff Zero) In a nutshell, Romanoff Zero is nothing more than a Hunter version of Romanoff the first, same effect and all. But he's great for a Death Phoenix deck based on Hunters, if that's your Forte... Dragons never truly die... We just come back, Fiercer, Stronger and Deadlier than before... (Necrodragon Guljeneraid) Necrodragon Guljeneraid is the definiton of Zombie Dragon. Whenever one of your dragons are destroyed, he can be summoned Via. Graveyard for no cost. Perfect combination is using him with The Two Romanoffs mentioned above, as they can Search your deck and send him into the Graveyard; and just in case a Dragon Dies, it rise from the dead as Guljeneraid. ![]() Once you get past the rotting flesh and the Piercing Yellow eyes, it's Kinda cute - (Kachua, Keeper of the Ice Gate) Necrodragon Giland, is still an oldie, but due to my thought of trying Not to make this a copy of my Soul Phoenix Review, i disregarded it, which was pretty stupid of me... Anyway, Necrodragon Giland is a 4 mana 6000 2X Breaker, who dies if it battles. Perfect Death Phoenix bait just because of it's low cost, and with Cocco Lupia, it can be dropped to 2 mana for it, allowing you to spam it if you desire to do so, or at least summon a second one in case the first bait dies. I make Hell look like Heaven!- (Galzark, Divine Destruction Dragonmech) I can't leave him out. He played a Major Role in the DM movie and if we're doing comparisons between the two Phoenixes, he's definitely the opposite of Super Dragon Machine Dolzark. (Funfact: In Duel Masters Vortex Wars, it's name is Super Dragon Machine Galzark, mirroring it's Earth Dragon counterpart) Galzark is an interesting dragon in itself, able to gain +6000 and Triple Breaker, just for having an additional Dragon out. And he can't be attacked... That's pretty cool, just that fact alone should put fear in your opponent, making so he's can't be rid of easily. (Let's make some noise)- Cocco Lupia Can't be a Phoenix deck without the Fire Birds right? Cocco Reduces the Zombie Dragon's cost by 2 like usual. And Speaking of the Lupia Family... No one's killed one of MY Dragons and lived to tell about it... I dare you to be the first...- (Dark Lupia) Cocco Lupia's Goth Bro decided to help her out. Whenever one of your dragons are destroyed, Dark Lupia Avenges them, allowing to kill one of your opponent's creatures in return. And Eye for an Eye, Wing for a Wing, Karma's a real *Insert Word/ Trollface* Let's go, Lunarzeberg!- (Lunar Kuroro) Lunar Kuroro is a Fire Bird that gives all creatures in the battle zone Slayer. In addition to that whenever a dragon attacks you can pick a creature from your graveyard. So not only does it serve as bait, but also a way to recover your lost creatures. Even if I fall, my commrades will avenge me!- (Super Necrodragon Lunarzberg) Super Necrodragon Lunarzberg is a Nice addition to the deck, as when it dies, It can summon up to two 7 costing Darkness Creatures in her place; In this situation, two Zombie Dragons and/or Darkness Fire Birds to use for Death Phoenix. And since it's a Zombie Dragon, it serves as bait too. And remember the "No Choice" Thing I mentioned earlier? No Choice is a mechanic that allows Said Creature to gain an ability whenever either player has no cards in their hand. If Death Phoenix leaves, then your opponent's hand will empty itself. Allowing creatures such as: I'll make sure you all rot in the underworld!!- (Black Ganveet, Legion of Demise) Black Ganveet, To activate their abilities. His No Choice Ability is that he gains an additional +5000 power, totaling 12000. And then you have other ones like this one: ![]() I'm gonna make this hurt as much as possible...- (Skull Merdi, Shadow of Vice) Skull Merdi gains +4000 and Double Breaker through it's no choice ability. It looks like Death Phoenix has been recruiting over the years... The Ultimate Treasure left by the Great Bajula... Now it's mine... -(Death Phoenix) Spur of the moment idea. Why have a Double Breaking shield destroying Phoenix, when you can have a Triple Breaking Shield Destroying Phoenix that can also incinerate mana...? Bajula's soul can turn your Phoenix from Hell into a Triple Breaking Heart breaker that burns mana with it's attack, totaling 5 cards to the grave if successful. Saving the World...? Not Easy!! Besides the Generic, common sense removal stuff, Creatures that are triggered Via "Discarding" like the three mentioned above are your best options. Death Phoenix's shield breaking destroys shields so Triggers are useless, and when it leaves you discard. So Creatures that go somewhere other than the grave when discarded, are a Perfect way to overcome the Phoenix. There is however other way. Just because the cards are in your grave doesn't mean that they're gone for good...(Thanks Waileukwu, Juncombo0 and Kaze Black) ![]() Make Way for the Puppet Master- (Death March, Reaper of Death) Death March is a Grave Evolution Creature, which means that it can evolve from any darkness creature in your Graveyard. Just because he only has 1000 power doesn't mean that he doesn't have an Ace up his sleeves. Whenever this creature Battles, the battling creature loses -4000 power until the end of that battle. So if it blocks Death Phoenix, his power will drop to 5000. Not spectacular, but the ability to reuse cards in the grave for last minute blockers with effects like this do indeed payoff. Gah! those surface dwellers don't understand the meaning of recycling. Of course I have to clean up that Phoenix's mess... (Cyber N World) Darkness isn't the only situation that can make use of the Grave. Cyber N World is a creature that shuffles your hand AND you graveyard back into your deck, making you draw 5 new cards. So the cards you lost due to the phoenix, come right back to you. Oh the joys of recycling! And Darkness has another ability that can counteract the Death Phoenix's Discarding. The Reign of the Avatars is Over! It's now time for the Zeta Clan to take over... Hannibal Zeta, the Charismatic Annihilator The Zeta Forces emerged in the DM-36 Set and they brought along "Soul Recall"an ability that triggers when you put a certain number of cards from the grave to the bottom of your deck. Hannibal for example, has a variant called "Hell's Soul Recall" which lets him use the ability for ever 4 cards sent to the deck from the grave, and for every 4, you can destroy a creature your opponent controls. Remember Kids, Recycling saves the world from evil Phoenixes The World in his Talons 4 mana Vortex Evolution with Shield Destroying and Discarding. Can't get much better than that to be honest. The Fall of the Phoenix... Again Looking back at the previous reviews, Death Phoenix ranks 3 at the Stats list, due to it being a Double Breaker and only having 9000 power. If it had Soul Phoenix's power and Breaking Variant he'd be at #1... or at least restricted, that's a little too powerful. nonetheless, Cards currently have the ability to take down 9000 powered creatures, not easily but its definitely do-able. And don't forget about the Discarding creatures, i only mentioned Three of them, but there's a whole lot more itching to be kicked out of their owner's hand. Good vs Evil One of my favorite Artworks of Death Phoenix, depicting it fighting against Soul Phoenix... Wait scratch that, that's not Soul Phoenix, That's Eternal Phoenix, Phoenix, Phoenix of the Dragon Flame... Well since he's here, I guess i should do a review on him too. After All, I consider him the Avatar of Eternity Conclusion to Part 5 And so Ends the 5th Review, thank God. As for Death Phoenix, it Gets a 9/10. Solid abilities, Shield Destoyer, and a discard effect. However, Since Eternal's sprouting up in new decks, i wouldn't be so hasty to use that last effect personally. And well, despite not being an Avatar, Blaze Phoenix, Avatar of Eternity(Eternal Phoenix) is getting a review, being regarded as the Sixth and Final Avatar, so look out for that one. K guys, thanks for Reading; Comment, rate etc and have a good Day, night whatever Follow the link to the Fanfiction |
