Gold Potion
The other Ace Spec card

Card of the Day? What Card of the Day? Oh...THAT Card of the Day.

General description:
The only other good Ace Spec card of the set. Well, at least until Plasma Storm is released and cards like Crystal Wall and Scramble Switch begin getting played. Anyways, Gold Potion is an Item Card, letting you heal 90 damage from the Active, and only the Active. This is a pretty good effect, but how does it stack up in the current format?

Uses:
So, it's main use in a deck is to heal damage off your Pokemon. Pokemon-EX would hit Pokemon for 90-110 damage, and you could heal off that damage, leaving the opponent needing to damage your Pokemon again to take another Prize. Unfortunately, this would mean that cards like Computer Search cannot be played because of the Ace Spec rule, and Max Potion is better in some cases. It is generally a good card with Pokemon above 110 HP.

Strategies and game play:
When playing this card, you must make sure that your opponent's Pokemon can at most 2HKO yours for Gold Potion to be effective. Otherwise, it is useless and would be better of discarded. Being able to deny a prize is amazing in this kind of game.

Combos with other cards:
The obvious card that it can combo with is Sableye. You can use the effect, and then reuse it with the help of Sableye's attack, Junk Hunt. This would make your opponent wary of Gold Potion healing damage from another Pokemon.

The next choice, similar to all other Trainer cards, is Skyla. Skyla allows you to grab Gold Potion when needed to use it when you need it. It is self-explanatory.

Cresselia-EX can combo with Gold Potion as well. Being able to sponge a ton of damage from the opponent, it can take hits well.

Generally everything that is 2HKOed can use Gold Potion. Cards that are not EXs would beg to have this, requiring a 3HKO on them.

Strengths/Pros:
-Heals damage well
-Denies Prizes
-A searchable card

Weaknesses/Cons:
-Heals only from the Active
-An Ace Spec card

Overall rating:
Modified: Overall a good card that is playable in this format, though most decks prefer Computer Search. 8/10
Limited: A must play unless if you get one of the two Ace Spec pairs or Computer Search. 10/10

Definitely useful in decks that aren't low energy (Garchomp/Altaria) or can move energy (Darkrai/Hydreigon) that would otherwise make more efficient use from Max Potion. Also useful to junk hunt twice, but you need to remember that Sableye can easily be OHKOed in meta when doing that junkhunt, so unless its still really early in the game you may need a sacrifice.
